Anyone have any names they would like to throw out for the Possible Vacancy at UNI? Here's my take
I'd like to see a guy from Coach Mac's Staff get the job. But I would not be opposed to someone like Dr. Tom Davis comming in and taking over. VERY UNLIKELY, but you never know I never thought that Coach Mac would leave for Iowa State. I knew he would leave some day, but Never anticipated it being to ISU.
I think I might be :barf:

It'll be Coach Jake -- we don't even need to have this debate.

Ben Jacobson will be the head coach.
A great hire. Things will continue to rise at Northern Iowa in my opinion.

Read the other threads, the job is Assoc Head Coach Ben Jacobson's to turn down.

Dr. Tom is coaching at Drake right now. I also hear they have plenty of season tickets for sale. They also have a messageboard run by a fine admin: www.drakenation.com

Dr. Tom would be a big step backward, I hate to think that would even be a last resort.

IT's a done deal. Ben Jacobsen is the new UNI head men's basketball coach.

Must have missed the press conference. I don't think he is under contract yet...

You're not the only one who has sources in the UNI athletic department.

A source VERY CLOSE has confirmed Coach Jake is OFFICIAL. It will be announced later today.

The players are in a meeting right now with the coaches -- that's the number-one priority right now is informing the TEAM of what's going on. Once that's been dealt with, a lot more information will be able to be made public.

I really hope this is the case (Coach Jake's hiring).
And I would love to see us come out with this announcement very quickly.
If it does, we'll look decisive and prepared versus dumbstruck in the wake of ISU's decision.
UNI is still the school that has been to the NCAAs three years in a row. UNI is still the school that has a clean program with solid academics. UNI is still the school that has a great recruiting class coming in next year. We need to step up and say that. If Mac wants to go, good luck. We're still planning on kicking ISU's a$$ next year and every year after. We're still planning to make the NCAAs next year while ISU is hoping to host an NIT game.
ISU is still ISU. The land of Sam Mack, Larry Eustachy and D-1 scheduling snafu's. They have a bigger checkbook, but that is obviously not always enough to get the job done.

Good point Blue. UNI has much to be proud of. UNI still has the best shot at making the NCAA's as any of the other in-state schools. UNI still has a spotless record, and is not going to take a backseat to anyone. This makes the drive for Panther fans even more fueled. This should make UNI fans want to beat ISU and Iowa even more to work on getting that mythical state title. It should fuel fans to bond together to make UNI as good as it can be. We have been in this position before. People choose to take our coaches, and we get stronger. This is the first time since Norm Stewart that a coach has gone onto "greener" pastures and hasn't had the heat on him. Football has had this happen before, but they continue to reload. Same this year, the Panthers will reload, and this will drive them in the off-season. Panther fans, we need to use this to drive our off-season and help the university in whatever needs to be done to continue to secure coaches and improve areas that need to be dealt with so that the success in our fine conference can be maintained and improved.

Sources are saying that Jordan may end up going to Iowa State now. He is reportedly meeting with his family today to weigh his options and apparently now one of his options is ISU.
He and his family have stated however that UNI is still an option.
If we do get Coach Jake (THANK THE LORD) then Perhaps we can keep Jordan From ISU, but from what I heard he signed with UNI with the intentions of playing for coach Mac.
Check out my Post on the PANTHER NATION LOUNGE ABOUT MAC'S MANIACS!!!

I hope Jordan sees the upsides to UNI. Remember, while Mac handed over the paper, UNI was the institution that committed to him first. Brand new building, rising profile, solid academic track record, and a higher profile in his home town then ISU.
Does anyone have a clue what the scholarship situation at ISU is? Are there even any available, at this point?

They have Stinson's, Blalock's, Carr's, and Fear's. Probably have Evanovich's. Between the current players and recruits I'm sure there will be someone who leaves. 4 is a safe bet.

Is Blalock for sure gone? I heard he was waiting to hire an agent to find out who the new coach was going to be.....

Right Blalock might still come back if tryouts don't go well. I just dropped 5 names that are likely gone though. It's safe to say another recruit or player will go. 4 open scholarships are very possible.

You can pretty much bank that one other is now tied up with Jordan. Mac was the one that wanted him early on. Later after bigger schools took note, he remained loyal to Mac. He's going to end up standing under the ISU basket for the next four years...

ISU has about 8 scholarships available every year due to players flunking out, getting arrested, getting kicked off the team for undisclosed reasons, leaving to play ball in Europe, or sometimes even a few graduate. :D
Note to Ames - you don't need to respond disputing all that, it's not true, it's supposed to be a joke. I'm in a pissy mood today and I needed to take some of it out on ISU.

Have at it Gonzo. I think later on you will regret some of the things you are saying about Mac. He is a good guy no matter what color shirts he is wearing.

That's probably easy to say when you are at least as big a Cyclone fan as Panther.
I won't regret anything I've said today about GM, a lot of people can't handle the truth and are showing their true colors today. They remind me of the Alford apologists who put the coach ahead of the school.
GM used UNI as a stepping stone, he's disloyal, he's lied to us, and he took off for the first bigger paycheck offered. The fact that he did good things here doesn't excuse what he's doing now.
Yeah, I've been venting, but I believe everything I've said and will have no regrets. After today I will never speak of him again, I could care less about ex-coaches. I don't even know where Sam Weaver is, unfortunately I will be forced to follow GMs career by the Iowa media.

Actually, that's not a true statement. I understand your frustration. I really do. It's been a struggle for me too, but I think time will help piece things together.

Its probably just as easy for you to blast Mac because you are as big a Hawk fan as a Panther fan. If Mac would have gone to Iowa, I guarantee you would not have the outrage you displayed yesterday.
