  • News: Blue turf for sale: Boise St. selling naming rights

Trying to capitalize on the success of its football team, Boise State University is offering naming rights for about $10 million to what is currently called Bronco Stadium, recognizable by its blue turf field.

Old Boise State is ambitious. You gotta like how progressive they are.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

I thought the NCAA said "no" to future fields having colored turf??????

        Blue turf myths

There are many myths about the blue turf. Two of the most prevalent are:

There is an NCAA rule banning turf colors other than green, but BSU's field is allowed to remain blue under a "grandfather clause". In reality, the NCAA has no such rule; any school may paint its field any color other than green if it wishes. Though painting the end zones is common, and schools have wide latitude in how to do so (for example, Neyland Stadium's distinctive orange and white checkerboard scheme), only BSU has chosen a non-green color for the field itself.

Mistaking it for water, birds have flown into the blue turf. This has never been confirmed. In 2007, Broncos coach Chris Petersen claimed to have found a dead duck on the field, though it is unclear whether or not the duck had mistaken the turf for water.

Aren't we in need of some new turf anyway?
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

I'm not a huge fan of the idea. I think it comes off looking kind of hokey or like some kind of gimmick that you'd try in the National Indoor Football League or AFL2.

But if we did it, I don't think we should go with all purple. That would look like a too-easy knock off of Boise State. You'd have to put a new take on it.

Like change the color from the 20 yard lines to the goal like and leave the middle 60 yards green. Or alternate every other five yard section...purple, green, purple, green.

I'd settle for some nice new turf with purple end zones and the new Panther logo at mid-field. That would be a huge improvement.
Winning is more fun than losing.

Oregon already does the "alternating" thing, though with two shades of green.

I sort of agree that purple would look a little cheesy. I think purple end zones, with purple turf between the 40's, with the gold UNI logo in the middle might look kind of cool (think about the field at the end of Any Given Sunday.)
