  • We'll Be Okay.....

UNI Football will be okay. They simply got outsmarted and lost on a few big plays. Indiana State is 4-1 for a reason! They have played some damn good football. UNI simply is pure vanilla football , meaning you get the same ole s4it week in and week out. UNI will bounce back next week with a win. Even though we did not win , they lost to quality opponent. WE WILL BE OKAY.....I AM STILL BEHIND THESE YOUNG MEN OF UNI FOOTBALL....GO PANTHERS!!

Maybe. Maybe not. We'll find out soon enough.

And we are 2-3 for a reason. Sadly, I agree with your statement that we will be ok. However, I don't mean it in the same way you do. You are saying that this team will be fine, they will rebound and still make a decent season out of it. I have a hard time now seeing that we will ever be better than "just ok". UNI needs to make serious changes in coaching - especially on the offensive side. I certainly don't posess a great football mind but I have loved and followed this team for over 25 years now and I have seen year after year after year (I could go on but I won't) of disappointing losses in big (and many not so big) games that we should win. We have had such talented teams and have very little to show for it. I'm tired of the disappointment.

No, UNI lost because they did not come ready to play in the 1st quarter. 14 points on the first two drives for ISU won them that game. Offensively and defensively the Panthers were not ready to go in the 1st quarter.

Good point DomeIsHome. I (personally) just try not to blame the offense/defense/sawyer/farley/coaches ect... I should have kept it short and said simply that I am still behind the panthers. We lost to a team that just happens to be 4-1. I firmly believe that this game in particular, has taught the coaches and players to not take any damn thing for granted. ISU is NOT a good football team , they are a TRICKY team that would/will throw everything including the bathroom sink at an opponent.

I would have agreed with the OP had WIU held on Saturday.

My expectations are that we do better than, "ok." Having an "ok" football team does not interest me. Not with the talent this team has.

Agreed. INSU is better this year than past seasons, but we have no business losing to them with our talent. Do we have an Oline this year? If we had a legit tackle (people say Rummells is NFL material?!) why can't we run the ball behind him? Why is our QB under constant pressure from all sides? Where are the tight ends? 2 catches for Lehman and 1 for Williams (he's not purely used as a TE). We have some big bodies who can catch the ball who never get thrown to. Vereen with ZERO receptions??

Huge frustration. Not using our tight ends. It happens every year. And why are all the passes to Vereen thrown to the sidelines?
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

The playoff chances are out the window this year unless something strange happens. I can see the losses against Iowa and Hawaii but the Indiana State loss was troubling. Yes they are 4-1 but this UNI team is probably the most talented one in years and they are sitting at 2-3 right now with zero margin for error left in the season. They've missed the playoffs too many times and everyone said this might be the year to make a playoff run.

Well now they probably aren't even making the playoffs. They'll be "ok" but "ok" doesn't cut it this far into Farley's tenure. We've seen UNI come into games unprepared a lot lately and something isn't right within the program.

UNI sits in a better position for making the playoffs now than they did at this point in the season in 2005. At least statisticly, if not personnel-wise.

At this point in the season in 2005, UNI sat at 2-2 against Div. 1 opponents (they also had a win against Minn.-Duluth, but that doesn't count towards playoff eligibility), with only 6 regular season games remaining. This year, UNI is 2-3 with 7 games remaining.

Win 6 of the next 7, and they're a lock for the playoffs.
Win 5 of the next 7, and they have a pretty good chance.

A 7-Div. I win team from the MVFC this year (especially w/ all wins being against scholarship teams) should get in, as long as they don't have 5+ conference losses.

                          Re: We'll Be Okay.....

Edit: Sorry, I should have said that I predicted the rest of the year in a best-case scenario for UNI, without winning the auto-bid from the conference. This would probably be the only way that UNI gets an at-large bid (I don't think that would happen though).

So I just predicted the rest of the year for UNI, NDSU, Ill St, SDSU, Southern Ill, and YSU. I have them like this:

                          NDSU - 11-1 (7-1)
                          Ill St. - 10-1 (7-1)
                          YSU - 9-3 (6-2)
                          UNI - 8-4 (6-2)
                          SDSU - 8-4 (5-3)
                          Southern Ill - 7-5 (4-4)

I have NDSU only losing to UNI. They don’t play Illinois State this year, and get YSU, Southern Illinois, and SDSU at home.

I have Illinois State’s only loss coming to Youngstown. I think they get all geared up for the game at UNI, then have a letdown at home the next week.
I have YSU losing at SDSU and at NDSU, but beating Illinois State on the road. They don’t play UNI this year.

I have UNI losing to Illinois St, but beating NDSU. I also have UNI losing only to Illinois State in conference, which I think is unlikely, but I’m trying to be optimistic.

I have SDSU losing at UNI and at NDSU for their 8-4 record.

For the record, I think Indiana State is a fraud and last week was the highlight of their year. But if they come back with a huge win next week (against Ill St) then they’ll be in this picture too, and UNI’s chances of making the playoffs gets bleaker.

Playoff picture: Until the Playoff Committee actually does it, I don’t see them taking 4 MVFC teams, and I don’t see it happening again this year. If, IF UNI can get the win over NDSU then I think there might be a chance, but again I won’t believe it until I see it. If UNI had won last week, or gotten the win over Hawaii, I think they are in even with 2 conference losses at the end of the year. They and Youngstown would both be 9-3 (6-2), but UNI would have a win over a FBS team, which is important for the committee.

I suppose I should have qualified that by saying, "Within the last decade," or something similar.

Still, I'm going to stand by my previous statement; I'll believe it when I see it.
