Cedar Falls, IA, 4pm Kickoff
#5 Ill. State is 7-0, (4-0 MVFC) and is playing very well. Has had two games in conference where they almost blew it but have found ways to keep winning. Beatable.
Common opponents, won @ ISUb 20-18 on a last second FG. Came back from 18 down at half to win @WIU 37-34. Crushed SDSU at home 45-10.
Northern Iowa has a little momentum and is playing at home (also where we haven't won a home conference game yet) against a top 5, and with huge playoff bubble implications on the line. You have to believe Farley will have the group ready to go and they know what is at stake too.
For the Redbirds, well, they are kinda scary. They avg. 39 points a game and have scored 274 on the season..with 77 of those off turnovers.
They give up just 12.9 points a game. 2nd in the conference behind NDSUs 9.4/game.
They are a rushing machine with their lead tailback Coprich racking up lots of yards and being considered for some awards.Coprich has rushed 158 times for 992 yds and 12 TDs. He is avg. 6.3 yds per attempt. A balanced quarterback in veteran Tim Roberson has ISU with a great 1-2 punch on the ground. Roberson avgs. 62 yards on the ground a game with 4 TDs.
As a team, the Redbirds avg. 237 yards on the ground a game.
Roberson is a decent passer as well. He is 77-136 with 14 TDs to 6 picks. He avgs. 192 yards a game through the air. He has 4 receivers that he typically hits, and does it a lot when he passes. Hard to pinpoint just one to keep tabs on. When he is passing, he has been hard to sack...defenses have only gotten to him 10 times.
Kicking wise...their kicker is 8-8 on FGs with a long of 41.
Defensively they are sharp. 24 sacks on the year, 47 TFL, 9 INTs, 6 FF, and 5 Fumble recoveries. They've also blocked two kicks.
Offensively they like to motion receivers out and swing pass to Coprich with the motion man doing some big blocking down field. Their smallest offensive output this year was 320 yards against EIU, where they won 34-15.
It will be a tough task. I'd feel better with McNeil playing but Shul has been doing great in his absence. I'm glad we have so much depth on the DL. X-man will need to have a big game clogging up that middle.
Should be a dandy of the game. Carnes needs to keep developing his throws but we should see plenty of #7 again.
LETS GO CATS!
