  • Week 3 polls

Where do the Panthers fall? I've seen Twitter come across with #5 on the AnyGivenSaturday poll. Seems generous.

Looks like #6 in the coaches
    #7 in the FCSGameday poll
    #7 in the CSN poll

Chance to really make some headway in the next few weeks. If we could somehow beat NDSU and Ill State (BIG if), I would think we'd be in the #1 spot.

Can the MVFC get 6 teams in the playoffs?

nope, even if we did two would be seeded, four would be playin games and then matched up against other Valley teams in the first round.

That's why the MVFC should now root for D+. If they win the Pioneer it would be a likely first round match-up for a MVFC team that plays in the first round.

Another year, another overrated Coastal team. Really wish Western Illinois would've knocked them off. Give it another week to assess the teams and WIU might be the best MVFC team in Illinois. Smoked Eastern and played Coastal close (not sure what the heck happened against Illinois). All Illinois St has done is beat up on one of the worst teams in the country (Morgan St) and then barely squeaked past EIU in OT. I'll give them somewhat of a pass on that Iowa loss because we didn't exactly light it up in our FBS game and Iowa is 3-0 but that Redbird D looks really soft and the offense looks depleted besides Coprich. It's going to be a really interesting season.

If Illinois St figures out their OL play, they still should be tough. I'm shocked at how they've looked so far. Roberson hasn't had much protection, and Coprich hasn't had the holes he was used to last year. They have plenty of talent, but their poor OL is holding them back. Also, I don't really know much about their defense, other than Perkins and Corwin are great pass rushers, but Corwin is hurt right now. That game should be really interesting, especially with all the pass rushing talent we have. McMakin, Ales, McNeil, Schult, etc should do well against that OL.

I still don't even have NDSU in my top 3. The Montana loss is getting worse for NDSU by the day and tho they won by 25 vs. UND, i wasn't blown away by it. it was 3 all after the first quarter and UND had only 1 possession that wasn't a 3 and out and that went for 4 plays in the first possession which led to a FG. UND had 4 total possessions that weren't 3 n outs. (4 for 13). I think both ISUr and NDSU games will be tough but very winnable if we play like we did against Cal Poly.

It appears that the bye week is starting off well for us.

Villanova lost to Penn last night (at home) - first loss to Penn since 1911. Penn was about a 30 point dog going in according to Massey (The tribe had a 98% chance to win, per the 'puters).

                          Thats a crazy big upset.

Keep an eye on Liberty at SIU this weekend too. The Valley has proven to be head and shoulders above the rest recently so I wouldn't be surprised to see SIU take that one.

Liberty is really good...last year they overachieved and this year they are legit. I honestly don't know if SIU can handle em. I hope so tho...

4 of the top 7 teams. Holy cow. Makes you wonder how that love doesn't translate to playoff selection. Of course, it would help if we didn't all have to play each other in the MVFC.
