    Re: Beers Sales?

I've heard almost all positive responses to it. And not just by a bunch of drunks. Nearly everyone thinks it is just common sense, especially if it financially beneficial for UNI.

It will only take one drunk fan barfing on Chuck Grassley to have the entire thing blow up - even if the drunk guy has 15 outside before having one inside.

No, I think Andrew Logue made the long drive from Des Moines to Ankeny for the PSC golf outing where he interviewed Farley and Harris.

Interesting quote from Grassley in the DM Register this morning. Essentially, he dismissed his own opinion because of his temperance. Not sure that temperance is really a relevant factor in this decision, but I really hope the legislators stay out of it. Let UNI make its own decision. The fact that other high profile schools (Ohio State) have moved in this direction should pave the way for UNI to do what it wants. I think it is a decision that should be made solely based on financial factors. The decision is not going to have an impact on the role of alcohol in our culture (which is already firmly in place).

            Re: Beers Sales?

I doubt the actual beer sales will make a huge amount of money but any net gain should be pursued at UNI.

I think it's more about adding to the fan experience and eliminating one of the reasons to stay home and watch on TV.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

The security personnel refused to escort out any unruly/inebriated fans until after the presidential election.

This is spot on correct. The politicians and other (non university) government workers should stay the hell out of this.

Actually the cost of beer at a ball game is used quite often as an excuse not to attend. "Why should I pay $8 for a watered down cup of beer when I can stay home, buy a six pack for about the same amount and watch the game for free?"
"And immediately, (P'Allen Stinnett's) Facebook status was spouting vulgarities towards the university."

I'm not sure I would price them at $8 but even so it's better than no beer. I just hope that if they ever do it it's not $8 and the only option is bud light.

Or they could designate a few sections "alcohol only" and see how that goes. Less of an area to clean up after spilled beers. But going on that note, any type of alcohol sales the Dome staff is going to have to do a better job on cleaning up the stands after games (ie, spraying it down).

The sticky floors in the low rows after the HS playoffs are shoe-shredders. We also bring sponges & towels for our seats. Sometimes it works out that it happens for two weeks. Oh well, the price of revenue for the AD. (Don't like it though when the seat backs are broken.)

Oregon State adding beer garden in stadium:

                          http://footballscoop.com/news/oregon...-stadium-fall/

Known as The Terrace, the 13,000-square foot area will serve beer (offered by a selection of the state’s 194 breweries), wine (ditto for Oregon’s 400 wineries) and food vendors to a group of 600 fans who can view their favorite team’s game on chair back seating. Each game’s vendors will be chosen through a social media vote, and Oregon State’s Food Science and Technology and its Fermentation Science — also known as Oregon State’s own in-house brewery — programs.

“Oregon is recognized all over the world for its incredible culinary excellence and regional, national and international award winning beer, wine and food; it’s a natural to combine what this diverse state has to offer with college football Saturdays on this beautiful campus,” Oregon State AD Todd Stansbury said in a statement earlier this year. “This state is a leader in this country and beyond in food and fermentation science technologies; it’s a perfect addition to have world renowned leaders in these industries right here on campus and in this state add to our game-day experience.”
Must more space in their stadium than the dome, obviously. Interesting concept.

Perhaps another revenue generator ... purple and gold, logoed pre-moistened sponges individually-wrapped on sale in the concourse. Or just give them out free acter football playoffs if a sponsor (3M make sponges) can be found.

Feature beers from Iowa or UNI grads (Goose Island is now owned by InBev but it was Waterloo native/UNI grad John Hall who founded it and built; Excelesior Brewing in the western burbs of the Twin Cities is run and I think founded by two UNI grads; isn't SingleSpeed a UNI grad?).

Okoboji Brewing Co. is at least partly owned by a recent-ish UNI grad. Sadly they still aren't up to distributing widely...yet
