UNI is notorious (at least under Farley) for not publicizing scholarship offers. Probably has to due with the history of Iowa and ISU swooping in on a targeted athlete, using UNI as a scouting service.

        That list is not complete.

The list earlier in the thread is more accurate. We have about 10 commits. Most the kids on the larger list have Twitter posts indicating they've committed.

Farley said expect about 15 signings so we can expect a few more.

Whew. I feel a lot better. It was hard to believe my eyes when I saw the short list. Should have just stayed on this site for my info.

            Per Twitter...

Panthers got a verbal commit from Erik Sorensen an OT out of Waukee.

Dimensions reminds me of a Bryce Sweeney..
            6' 6" and 300 lbs. Long arms.

There are "unwritten" conference rules, but unless a player signs there is no NCAA rule about tampering with a player that has no signed letter of intent.

Interesting one. Multi sport athlete with good size from far NW Iowa...a stone's throw from Vermillion.

Big kid played WR as a junior and then played QB senior year. Also played LB on D.

                  Good hoops player too.

Like to see these Iowa kids getting on board.

Karter Schult was all but headed to Upper Iowa when Farley signed him late. Who's the next Iowa kid to come from under the radar to have a huge career at UNI?

Bryce Flater from Grundy Center. Offered a gray shirt at Iowa to bulk up and play fullback, but will play linebacker here.

6-1 and a solid 225 at this point. Ran an electronic 4.66 at Iowa State camp last summer. Good hips and does well in space. Assume he'll play inside here.

Looks like Nick Simpson...Long snapper from Dowling...Is coming to UNI.

                      Assuming that's Trent Simpson's brother.

Saturday night MF said we will be taking in a smaller class this year than last, more like 13 & mostly Iowans. He had about 8-10 families in town that night.

Did he explain his rationale? Both for the smaller size class and for it being mostly Iowans? Is he just spinning what seems like a major recruitment problem due to missing assistant coaches?

                              Re: Class of 2017--Football Recruits

There was 19 seniors last year. Chances are 12 or 13 of them were on full rides and between the others there were probably 5 more full rides tied up. Essentially I'd guess 17 full rides were tied up by last years senior class.

If we are bringing just 12 or 13 players in AND they are mostly Iowans I'd bet there is 9, maybe 10, scholarships worth of offers being taken right now. Iowan's are cheap, and easier to grab at a reduced scholarship rate (plus, cheaper to recruit). Can sell an in-state program. Getting to play in Kinnick (for one more class), play in Jack Trice, beat the programs that didn't think you were good enough. Get to play close to home so your family can get to every game, but far enough away from home to still develop on your own. Think of the kid from Central Lyon. It's 4-4.5 hours from Rock Rapids to Cedar Falls. It's a boring drive, but it's easy. Central Lyon fans are used to the drive as it's a damn good program that has been to the dome with frequency over the last 20 years. It's a program with ties to UNI (Jordan Gacke was an AC linebacker, Justin Overman in the late 90s early 00s, Abbie Ackerman (married Gacke) played basketball and track as UNI, and a handful of other athletes over the last two decades). Same story can be said for anyone from any of the corners of the state.

That would mean the program is +5/6 scholarships. Do the math on that. This past year for OOS tuition and fees the total was $27,480. That puts the program +/- $165,000 in scholarship costs. Add in bringing in more Iowans vs OOS kids and we are probably pushing (Iowa resident is $11,000 less) $200,000 saved vs last year. That means one of three things

                              1. The "left over" scholarships from last year have to be pushed to kids already on the roster to keep them here, and keep them from transferring. There are 21 redshirt freshman on the roster. There are 22 sophomores. There are 20 juniors. There are 15 seniors. That's 78 players players returning. Typically FCS programs carry about 100 players. If we sign 13 that puts as at 91, plus walk-ons and we are about 100. There is a boat load of players that are redshirt freshman/sophomores (either true or RS). Football essentially has 5 classes and about 60% of our roster is already tied up in the two of them. If there are about 6 scholarships left I'd watch for them to be put into keeping "fringe" players that might have otherwise left for a D2/D3, another FCS, or left football all together. The FCS has 63 scholarships that can be split between 85 kids.

2.The scholarships are going to be banked completely and the program will eat the ~$200K in savings to help how the budget looks in the books.

                              3. The scholarships will be "banked" but dumped into coaching salaries because someone in the athletic department realizes we pay our assistants like **** and need to do better.

It appears that Lazarus Fisher, RB out of Mesquite, TX...Who had verballed a month ago...Will not be joining the Panthers.

Article says Coach Oguntundu visited him a few weeks ago to let him know we no longer had a scholarship available at the RB position. They were being reallocated to lineman.

                                Hmmm.
