Re: Softball takes down Iowa State
Did not actually rain on the diamond during the game, unless maybe at the very beginning (which I missed). Even had about 30 seconds of sunlight. The wind was very chilly, though.
The Panthers had bases loaded with no outs in both the 2nd & third innings, and only came away with 2 runs from it, so it ended up being more of a nail-biter than it might have. Decision was made to rest both Ross and Buchannan, and that also takes two of the best hitters out of the line-up.
Hope some funds can be found to get some fresh white pants to go with the white jerseys, or at least a bottle of bleach.

Re: Softball takes down Iowa State
Ross only played a little and Buchanan didn't play at all in the DH split at Bradley, so sounds like things are serious enough, sadly. The bright spot was Lange, who not only won the first game 1 but knocked in a homer as well. This must easily be the best hitting group of pitchers the Panthers have ever put on the diamond.
However, despite the most overall wins in the MVC, we're 5th in conference play. D+ is running away with the regular season, hope we can get healthy, make the tournament and do some damage.
Edit: Ross will pitch today (Sunday), Buchanan at DH and Lange in LF. Wonder if coach Jacobs is pushing a bit, given the standings.
Now in a rain delay, UNI up 11-4. Sure would be nice to pick up this one.Last edited by in_the_stands; 04-10-2016, 11:26 AM.

Re: Softball takes down Iowa State
Fireworks down in Iowa City last night. Hog eyes win 6-3 and Coach Jacobs gets tossed.
First 3 1/2 innings not too eventful. Both teams getting one or two runners on every inning but not stringing enough together to score. We stole second a couple of times (Bailey Lange can do everything!) and threw out stealers once or twice.
Bottom of the fourth - we got an out, then there was a weak hit over the second baseman. Bailey hit the next two batters - the first one was not noticeable, the second one was. The next batter hit a sharp come-backer to the pitcher, which pulled her some. If she could have, a throw home & to first would have ended the inning. She ended up turning to second, looking around, and not throwing anywhere??? Stayed in for one more batter, I think. Ross came in and bounced a few to the plate before putting the fire out. 6 runs.
We scored 3 runs right back. Then later our slap-hitter Samantha Olson was up. She tried her usual, which did not work all night, and on one pitch Coach Looper comes out to argue about her being out of the batters box or something. The home plate umpire doesn't satisfy her, but calls in the other two. We could see from the 1st base stands that the left side ump was saying he didn't see it. Eventually they call Olson out, which brought R. Jake out of the coaches box. They were going back and forth on who called it and why. Eventually he gets tossed, but proceeded to get his money's worth - the two base umps having to shield the home plate guy from the chasing. Good Job!
We had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh for a potential tie, but could not bring them in. At least we made them use three pitchers.
Tonight they play Drake. Free pizza night!?!

Re: Softball takes down Iowa State
Panther SB over Loyola 8 - 1 & 12 - 0. Ross pitched a 2 hitter & Kennedy Bailey 2 HRS in 1st game. 7 Loyola errors in 2nd game. 1 more tomorrow, then 4 & 6 PM home DH Tuesday vs league leader Drake. Missouri ST gave Drake their 1st conference loss today. Go Panthers. Good to see 70 Grad!
