Apparently, slime ball Cuonzo Martin desperately wants the Illinois job.
I think in the end they go with Johnny Dawkins.

I think we can get Jake into the $900-$1MM range, but it will take another sweet sixteen type season.
Dannen said it only took 24 hours to raise the money for Jake's new contract after the Kansas win. The deep pockets are available, they just need a compelling reason to dig into them. |

I disagree with this...atleast short run. The asst coaches get paid too. We can't afford asst coaches that have a head coach who makes $1MM. I guarantee all the asst coaches were pissed jake didn't take the A&M gig....their lifestyles could have taken a huge step up...

It's being reported that Shaka's big issue with Illinois was the need to recruit Chicagoland, and all the crap/corruption that entails. Illinois is attracting some name candidates, as well they should. That said, they aren't the destination job they think they are. It's a program that SHOULD be a destination, but isn't.
Another potential opening to watch is Northwestern. |

Northwestern is a job that would interest Shaka. His wife is an alum and he grew up in Wisconsin.

But if recruiting in that area was his concern...how does moving into Chicago change that? Either I missed something or the beef isn't Chicago

No worries Panther-State... Philosophy and World Religions will probably be cut soon. Stupid liberal arts.

It may have been mentioned elsewhere, but Marshall from WSU is apparently lobbying behind the scenes to get the Illinois job. His biggest problem will be that he's white (Illinois' AD is getting real pressure to hire a minority coach) and he's from a mid major school and his name isn't Shaka. Regardless of this situation, Marshall looks like he's short term at WSU.

Good... for our short-term sake, I hope it WSU collapses under his departure.

Interesting, now it's being reported that Illinois is in heavy talks with Brad Stevens from Butler. That's blows away the whole minority hire thing, but may be a way for the Illinois AD to save face for losing Shaka.

Miles is definitely from the school of Mac. Always called Colorado State his dream job and then used the same words in his Nebraska intro.
How long before he ends up at Wyoming?

Multiple sources are reporting that Frank Martin from Kansas State is taking the South Carolina job.

Gregg Marshall has to be pissed he didn't wait another week to sign the new deal. He would have been a favorite to get the K-State job.

KSU wanted Mac but he chose ISU. I bet Jake will be getting a call, not sure he'll be interested or not, but he'll get a call.
