Schultz was a two-time Little All-American and the first player from UNI (then SCI) ever drafted into the NFL, by the Cleveland Browns in the '66 draft in the fifth round (he was also drafted by the Jets in the 20th round of the AFL draft). He had limited carries on that squad in a backfield which featured future PFHoFer Leroy Kelly. He then played two more years for the expansion Saints, the '67 season in a backfield led by another PFHoFer, Jim Taylor.
I grew up with his son, Randy, in Cedar Falls, and remember seeing the Browns team photo framed in their house (it was a big deal to have an ex-NFL running back in the neighborhood). I was told that Mr. Schultz was one of the last players Vince Lombardi cut from the Redskins' 69 preseason roster.
