This never gets old ...
"STATS – Senior defensive end Karter Schult has been named to the 2016 STATS FCS All-America Team, it was announced today. Schult, who earned first-team honors, is one of three finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award invited to the STATS FCS Awards Banquet. The award is given to the absolute best defensive athlete in FCS football with the winner being announced Jan. 6.
This isn't Schult's first appearance on the STATS All-America Team, earning a second-team selection in 2015. In 2016, Schult has earned AP, AFCA and Walter Camp first-team All-America in addition to his STATS honor.
He was selected as the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year along with receiving an All-MVFC first-team for the second consecutive season.
The Tripoli, Iowa, native ended the regular season leading all of Division I football (FCS & FBS) in sacks with 17.0. His 17.0 sacks in 2016 ranks second all-time in single-season quarterback sacks while his 24.0 tackles for loss beat the UNI record of 23.0 that he set in 2015.
In addition to his single-season records, Schult tied the single-game record for tackles for loss with 5.5 against #14 Montana. In all, Schult leaves UNI the all-time leader in career tackles for loss (56.0) and quarterback hurries (20), along with ranking second in career sacks (35.5).
Schult will get the opportunity to compete at the next level when he participates in the 92nd East-West Shrine Game. The game will take place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 with a 2 p.m. CT kick off.
