The 2017 class is replacing aarias austin and jeremy Morgan. Assuming we pick up a commitment or transfer for the 2016 scholarship, we only have one scholarship left for 2017

Of course, I'm silly for not realizing that this is 2 seasons away. So then I guess what do we have for next year? Juwuan McCloud obviously, but was I incorrect in us losing 3 players (Matt, Wes and Paul)?

Sorry for bringing up 2016 info in the 2017 thread. I'm just curious

Next year is currently McCloud and Tanner Lohaus (6'6", Iowa City)

What position will Tanner most likely play?

My guess is that he grows into a stretch 4

I would think more of a 3. I don't know if he is even close athletic ability to Morgan but it would seem like a good fit. If he does continue to grow then I think he'd fill in as a good stretch 4 or extremely big 3.

I am hoping we end up with a transfer or a juco that will give us a senior in 2018-19. With all of the freshman red-shirting we are slated to be without a senior that season.

I still think that we're going after Brad Davison. Point guard from MN. Has a high major offer as well. Might be one of hose kids who is too good to pass up

Not sure how this slipped by, but just saw we recently offered Trae Berhow, a 6-5, 200lb SG from Watertown, MN.

Apparently was at Wednesday's game per twitter
https://twitter.com/RyanJamesMN/stat...19947357175809

He has a few other offers from the likes of Drake, SDSU, Green Bay, and a couple others. http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/trae-berhow

He can drive both ways and has a good jump shot. I liked the spin move as well. He can see significant playing time as a Junior. That's waiting in line for three years counting a red shirt season. Thank you MNpanthers. He wouldn't have to wait three years to play at ST Cloud State.

Highlights of Austin Phyfe. He could be a big boy by the time he's a freshmen.

One would assume we redshirt him though? Without transfers, we will already have 5 bigs including Carlson in our rotation. Regardless, I'm excited were getting him. Putting up 14 points a game as a junior.

Looks pretty solid, I noticed a lot of defenders on the inside ended up on the floor. He can step out and hit the 3 too, more or less a prerequisite for big men at UNI.

Thanks for posting. That was a nice video. Must have been 100 plays in less than 3 minutes.

I've met him a few times and he is already a big fella. And a nice guy who is able to have a conversation with adults.

Didn't expect to see so much outside shooting.

Really like the ball and body control in the paint, even when he is getting bumped.

Looking forward to his role as a Panther.

Not bad, but every move on there was to the left. Hope he works on his right hand.

Anyone know how big he is?

The point guard at New Mexico is transferring as a graduate student and will have one year of eligibility and will be eligible immediately. He has been their best player. He is the son of the head coach. Would we have an interest? Good student, excellent player and good citizen I would guess.

He's actually got two years to play. He'd be a nice get, but I don't see it happening...

Transferring because of death threats on Twitter, wtf is wrong with people??

His dad was also an assistant at Iowa under Alford(04-07), so he has some (albeit very little) ties to the state. Still probably a long shot for us.

I've seen him listed everywhere from 6'8 to 6'10 and between 225-260. Average seems to be 6'9 240ish

Not little is the best answer

He appears to be very similar to Dahl in terms of size/build, and Dahl is big.

He'd be a nice get for Iowa State too, assuming Morris goes pro.

You guys probably all saw that Kale Abrahamson is leaving Drake. I at first assumed it was due to attitude or fallout with the coaches. Still could be, but he's got his degree and is leaving via the grad transfer rule. I doubt we go for him, but we could easily play against him again next year, somewhere.

Sounds like Abrahamson was quickly turning into an attitude problem, when he was no longer starting.

Even though no one has suggested we pick him up, let's cut this KA talk right now. Just the thought of those mechanics physically pains my eyes and joints.

He and his family have been cancers for a long time. Any Coach capable of making some calls will steer clear of this situation

I heard the same from a Drake booster. To be fair, it's one side of the story, so take it for what you will.

Didn't Horner his old hs coach end up as an assistant in North Dakota? I could see them reuniting. I don't think Jake will touch him unless he comes as a walk-on.

I hope this years added post season gets us another quality 2017 recruit. All this weeks and hopefully next weeks free advertising can't hurt.

Those that remember his father will recall Steve as a long, lanky post player. Great jumper, got quite a few blocked shots and rebounds, but not much of a shooter from outside 10'.

Austin is not long and lanky. He is very solid and still growing. He actually has a nice touch from outside. It will be interesting how he physically shapes up over the next year+. I would expect he may redshirt if, for no other reason, the depth we will have at that point (Koch, Carlson, Friedman-SR, McDonnell, Dahl, Conrey-SO).

I don't know how scholarships are counted, etc., but I think we should renew our offer to Jordan Bohannon. And yes, I know he has committed to another school. Some might say that it's improper, but now, thinking about all that Matt has become and done for UNI, giving his brother a choice is the least we can do for that family.

No way it happens. Jake isn't that type of guy, and I'm ok with it. I really expect us to go get a JUCO or some transfer. I know it's not the UNI way, but we need to spread out the scholarships. We'll have what, 6 to freshman/RS freshmen next year?

I would love to see us get a grad transfer point guard and let McCloud redshirt. I know he is good but he needs a year to get bigger and stronger.

If he's as good as advertised I don't think you can redshirt him. It's not as important for guards to gain size and muscle as it is for big men, at least in my opinion.

There is a 0.0% chance that McCloud redshirts. He's playing and, IMO, probably starting next year.

Just watched the Phyfe tape. Trying to think of another player from UNI he reminds me of.

Wide body...pretty agile but not the quickest off the floor...nice touch inside and out.

Dare I say...Jason Reese? His dad's old teammate?

He's a big boy and he'll be a handful.

Phyfe is taller, right? Jason Reese was only about 6'8, but he was tenacious and you're right, had good touch. He's probably one of the few guys from that era who would see meaningful minutes on today's teams. It would also be interesting to see him with today's UNI weight facilities and overall training regime. Both are significantly upgraded since the late 80's.
