    Re: David Johnson Draft Status

    Johnson, David 11 games 222- 1309 avg carry 5.8 td 10
    Johnson, David 11 games 178 - 1038 avg carry 5.7 td 13

    John Crockett 15 games 190 - 1307 avg carry 6.7 td 11
    John Crockett 15 games 194 - 1059 avg carry 5.4 td 9

Sam Ojuri had 214 -1420 yards!!! in 2014 splitting carries with Crockett. Just think if Crockett got every carry like David Johnson did! Id say Crockett is every bit as good.

And you'd also be wrong, but we are used to that.

The past few years, your OL and team in general has just been better. DJ is probably the only player in the MVFC that has close to the talent/freak level of Turner. Turner has made your RBs look great. Just like UNI OL in 2007 made UNI's skill players look WAY better than they were.

Crockett also plays in a more run heavy offense, and ran behind a better offensive line than DJ

Johnson has averaged about 400 yds/season receiving, Crockett basically nothing. Good back but since your question was who is best, not best back Johnson is clear winner.

            Johnson receiving: 397, 383, 422
Crockett receiving: 54, 34 (played 4 additional games)

              Re: David Johnson Draft Status

Lakes you can't assume all things are equal in this equation. Otherwise you're saying that over the past few seasons UNI's offense = NDSU's offense. Clearly that isn't true, especially on the lines. The skill players were probably very close but UNI's line has struggled at times. Don't forget that Johnson has missed some time and been nagged by minor injuries during that time as well.

Plus Crockett is 6' 202 lbs compared to DJ at 6'3 225+. If you're an NFL GM, which would you rather see? The speedy guy who runs through holes but is a bit small or the monster who runs over people and still has speed to get to the outside and is a threat in the passing game?

NFL.com came out with who they believe to be the top 14 draft prospects from non-FBS school. Two panthers made the list.

» Complete 14 for '14 series While the vast majority of players selected every year will come from the FBS ranks, there still were 26 non-FBS players selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. Included in that total was one FCS player selected in the second rou

Not sure which is more surprising, David all the way down at 12 or X at 1. Glad to see the recognition, though!

Effective NT are far and few between. 3-4 is coming back in popularity given the recent success of KC Chiefs, 49ers, etc. About half of the teams currently run a 3-4.

DJ may be ranked lower simply because of limited action due to injury and not being able to make the playoffs (to increase national exposure).

Very true, and disruptive D Tackles are in huge demand (no pun intended) in any scheme. Not saying that's X Williams, but someone thought enough to rank him 1st amongst small school players at this stage. It's still very early, and his games against Iowa and Hawaii will go far in determining his draft potential, whether he's invited to post season all star games, etc. NDSU, W ILL, SIU, etc., he'll be expected to dominate at that level if he has NFL potential.

You can find productive RBs into the middle rounds, so they're easier to draft.

DJ's best asset is his versatility. His awesome combination of size, strength, and speed is not something you often see. He is less of a RB and more of an offensive weapon because you can use him in many different ways.

X is really a stud and is a prototypical NFL interior lineman with his size and athleticism.

I would look for Deiondre Hall to get some buzz these next couple years too.

Maybe it's just coincidence but that listed is sorted alphabetically.

i agree that his versatility is a good fit for the league. his inside running and general instinct is merely adequate in my opinion.

Here are the three things which will determine his NFL future, after he gets to a training camp: special teams, special teams, and special teams. Not as a return man either. He's a small college player who will be a mid to late round draft pick. Special teams is where the "rubber meats the road" for those guys.

Nothing wrong with the above either. The other RB Adrian Peterson (from Georgia Southern), had a very nice career with the Bears as a special teams ace. That may not be Johnson's game, but he's going to have to contribute on coverage teams to have a chance later to carry the ball.
