  • Iowa = Commies

Relatively entertaining read from the Tuscaloosa newspaper to help SEC fans understand the World Cup by explaining how soccer teams relates to a college football team-

Russia – Iowa: Can be good here and there, but no record of real success to speak of.

The analogy is only apt if Nebraska had once been part of Iowa, Iowa covertly sends in troops and invades, but Hayden Fry momentarily halts his advance. Oh...and Hayden also covertly orders an assassination attempt on the Pope.

Also notice Craig Bohl's new team made the list.

Australia – Wyoming: A team to put on your schedule to make your cupcake opponent sound like a bit less of a cupcake.

Interesting article here. It would be interesting to quantify how much this holds back UNI compared to, say, an Illinois State.

It's crazy to think Iowa is a "small" or "mid - market" team with a $1+ M recruiting budget.

I really like the point about recruiting small town QB's because they were likely the best athletes. Great philosophy when trying to fill skill positions and in the secondary.

Iowa is absolutely mid market at best. Their recruiting budget ranked 10th in the B1G. That makes you mid to small. The $1M budget figure doesn't mean jack, it's all about how you compare to your peers on a national level. Just because their budget towers over UNIs' - again, it means nothing because it's apples and oranges.

I understand Iowa is not a large market but they were 11th with over $100 Million in athletics revenue as well which was 4th in the Big Ten.

                    Re: Iowa = Commies

Iowa's recruiting "budget" is actually their "final bill". They are not limited to this amount, it's simply how much they choose to spend.

If ferentz leaves and is replaced by some up and coming mid major coach who has ties to the south or cali, you will see that "budget" double.
