Re: Final scholy filled for 2011

I recently watched Tuttle play a basketball game. He is a very versatile player at 6'9 and can definetely finish at the rim (he threw down some monster dunks) but the kid needs to bulk up if he is going to be expected to be down low. Well, he needs to get bigger either way.

Championship: Pflugerville 84 Coppell 79 (OT)

Both squads came out of the gate firing it up. Deep 3's by Pflugerville's Mitchell & Coppell's Austin Mankin had each team shooting about 70% for the quarter. Coppell leads after one, 21-18. The 2nd quarter saw a combination of more intense D as well as "so so" shot selection by both teams. Pflugerville got their advantage at the free throw line. At the half, Pflugerville is up 39-30 as Darrian Dempsey hit an NBA triple at the half.

Aided by an 11-2 run to start the 3rd, Coppell kept battling and has cut the lead to six, P'ville up 51-45. 2012 F Jett Raines has really asserted himself for the Cowboys. He's scoring and boarding HARD. With the score 60-58 P'ville has gone into an uncharacteristic stall and the clock is ticking down to 2:45....P'ville goes, and Mitchell swishes a three from deep! But everytime P'ville strikes a body blow, someone answers back for Coppell.. 66-64 with 1:04 left. With 16 seconds left, Raines hits an And 1 to tie it and we go to OT 71-71!

After P'ville jumped out 77-71, Coppell has scratched back to 77-76 with 1:27 left in OT. The last minute was Deon Mitchell's as he showed why he's arguably Texas' top guard in 2011. The Northern Iowa signee split three men in full court pressure three different times like a hot knife through butter and then finished by dishing to Shabazz for a dunk. Final score Pflugerville 84 Coppell 79.

Deon Mitchell was the unanimous MVP selection from us voters as he had 24 points. Jamal Shabazz had 13 points & 6 rebounds. Coppell goes deep into their bench so it's not easy for anyone to put up huge numbers but I became a big Jett Raines fan as the 2012 W had 24 points and 12 rebounds. Andrew Rexroat added 15 for the Cowboys.

2011 G Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa) was the MVP. He collects his hardware from former Texas Longhorn Drew Gressett who was a tournament sponsor through his Hat Creek Burger Company

I have to admit, I'm loving the Kid 'N' Play flattop in the front. I wish I could have enough style and hair growth to pull that off.

I think this kid has a chance to one of our stars in a couple years. He seems to have a fairly well rounded game already. Not sure of his defense but that's the one thing Jacobsen knows how to coach very well.

                      Pflugerville 84 Leander 68

Senior Deon Mitchell had another huge night as he is really beginning to assert himself offensively. The area's most gifted guard and a Northern Iowa signee had 33 to lead the Panthers. 2011 P Mark Nwakamma added 28 for the Lions in the loss.

2011 G Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa) of Pflugerville (left) & 2011 P Mark Nwakamma of Leander, two of the area's top prospects went head to head last night.

                      Also...
An improving Georgetown squad gave Pflugerville a test for the 1st half, but the Panthers proved to be tooo deep. The Eagles got nice numbers from their Big 3; 2012 PG Mike Hardge (19), 2011 David Kerr (19) & 2011 W Logan Webb (21). Pflugerville had many more contributors, but most importantly they have Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa). Mr Smooth scorched Georgetown, giving them 33 points.

How long before his grade goes up, he seems to be playing very well against good competition. Bohannon's went up, and I would think 5A Texas competition, is probably better than in Iowa. Nothing against Matt he is a very good player too, it just seems that Deon has been doing some really good things lately.

Deon is sounding like a GREAT find. I can't wait to get him in purple panther threading. Just what we need to step into KAs shoes!

Round Rock coach Cody Blake doesn’t mix his words when describing Pflugerville guard Deon Mitchell’s game. He doesn’t quite throw roses at the feet of the Northern Iowa recruit, but you understand the respect.

“He’s the best guard in Central Texas. He knows it. I know it,” said Blake, following his Dragon’s 59-47 home loss to the Panthers on Tuesday night. “Our goal was not to stop him, but to stop the rest of (his teammates).”

Mitchell netted 23 points and had six rebounds, while piloting the Panthers, (20-4, 5-0 District 16-5A) who are the lone team without a blemish in district play. The 6-foot point guard is averaging 20.8 points a game.

There’s still room to grow, though. Pflugerville has emerged as the district favorite. The Panthers showed that by steadily pulling away in Friday’s game. Guard Deon Mitchell, the favorite for district player of the year and one of the top recruits in the state this cycle, poured in 33 points.
Another write-up on his last game:

Stony Point's 3rd quarter comeback stalled as Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa) had 29 for the Panthers. It wasn't easy though as a BIG Stony Point team gave Pflugerville fits on the boards. The Panthers were thin as Jamal Shabazz missed his 3rd game because of a concussion. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.
Then, there is a picture with Deon, with the following quote above it:
Pflugerville PG Deon Mitchell has Northern Iowa fans licking their chops in anticipation

Can't wait to get Deon on campus. Only wish he had a year with Kwadzo. He will have a year with Johnny and a few with AJ and Sonnen, though. Great job recruiting!!
