Interesting that Gerrits was elevated to the starting lineup over Morgan for the E-ville game, and was leading scorer. Had that not happened, it could have been a different game, as Weekly, Herzberg and Maahs were a combined 6-27.

I think maybe the coaching staff wanted to put a spark under MM...

Bummer that we couldn't quite hold on at SIU, in that had we been able to win out the regular season (a tough order to be sure, esp. at Drake), we might have been on the bubble for an NCAA at-large bid. We came into the weekend with a 49 RPI, better than Iowa or Iowa St. Drake still might be in the running for one (RPI 28) if they don't win the tournament.

The Salukis (despite their 202 RPI) just plain brought it in the 2nd half, the more success they had the more energy they found, whereas we looked tired late in the game. Schonhardt and Maahs both had 3 fouls and had to play carefully. Our offense for the last 10 minutes was basically whatever Weekly could come up with, which had been a problem earlier in the season. A nice first half from Gerrits, but like everyone else, not much in the 2nd half.

The SIU announcer commented that Morgan looked tentative whenever she touched the ball, not a good time for her to be in a funk.

Games like this are marked down in the ouch! column.

Hoping this is nothing serious, but at the half at Loyola, two starters out with knee issues, Schonhardt and Gerrits, who is on crutches

Also, just now noticed that Mariah Criswell is no longer listed on the roster, did she leave at semester break?

seems like UNI WBB has had a bevy of knee injuries the past few years.
(maybe it is the same across wbb in general, I don't know)

It's an epidemic for female athletes. Thanks to body structure their hips are wider which puts the femur at an angle that puts added pressure on knee ligaments, especially the ACL.

Schonhardt resting knees, not injured. Don't know status of Gerrits....

Good news on HS, radio guy said she was icing both knees, but that probably happens a lot this time of year. He also said he thought Gerrits bumped knees with a Loyola player, so hopefully that's just a bruise. Coach Nelson had no info on either in the post-game. He did say he hoped coach Warren would be good to go by Sunday.

ETA - watched the replay and a Loyola ballhandler inadvertently caught Gerrits on the side of the knee, just above the joint. She was wearing those sleeves with the built-in knee pads, but no padding on the sides, of course. Cautiously optimistic.
