  • Iowa Hawkeye items at a Dome Tailgate

I am wonder how the rest of Panther Nation feels about seeing Iowa Hawkeye along with other non UNI school's tailgating equipment (Easy Ups, Chairs, ect) at the Dome. It seemed to me to be at an all time high at the Drake game.

While I don't care for it, if an Iowa fan is spending money on UNI tickets instead of Iowa tickets that's a good thing in my book.

Also how do we know they were Drake people using this, I doubt they even would make Drake items like this, as the demand would be so low

Personally it drives me nuts when people attend an event and wear colors of a totally unrelated team.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

Agreed. It makes people look like dolts - at least just wear a regular t-shirt, polo, or sweatshirt.

Way back when, I remember seeing two guys who always used to wear Houston Oilers gear to every game (?) Maybe they slept in it, I don't know.

Anyway, don't wear another college's colors to a game - it just looks stupid.

I live in Iowa City and attend family tailgates here on occasion. Even though I am not a Hawkeye fan, it wouldn't be right to wear UNI gear to an Iowa tailgate. I will either wear some of my husband's Iowa stuff, or more likely, just generic non-descriptive clothes.

The same should go for UNI tailgates. My husband wears purple and gold or generic stuff when we go up to the Dome, even though he's a Hawkeye.

Well said. I agree on both circumstances.

I bring uni stuff to Iowa tailgates and vice versa occasionally. It's just not practical to buy two of everything.

so what y'all are saying is that you want to restrict tailgating?

I don't think anyone wants to restrict anything, lord knows we don't need any more tailgating "Rules".

I for one find it classless and disrespectful but that's just my opinion. On the other hand I feel freedom of speech is a pretty cool thing and would not suggest we take that away from anyone.

It used to drive me crazy. Now, I'm just happy they've decided to attend the event. If we want them to fully join Panther Nation, we should be welcoming the casual or "fringe" fan who is dipping a toe into the water to see if they want to come back again. We want/need them to come back again.

Seems like a nice opportunity for University Book and Supply (or someone) to set up a booth in the tailgate area, so's they can buy a Panther shirt or hat or flag to fly.

Perhaps a sponsor would cover the cost of Panther shirts or hats for the converted ... of course, they would need to turn over their shirt or hat in exchange.

I wear UNI shirts to pretty much every sporting event I attend. It's better to get the name out there. Was at the IA vs. ISU tailgate and had a number of people ask why I was wearing the shirt. "I just want to support the best football team in the state" was my automatic answer.
I, however, do not like it when PantherHOK fans wear their rainbow of HOK color shirts to UNI events. #1 I think that if you are going to an event to cheer for a team, you should wear the shirt to support the team. #2 If you are a true Hok fan, (then you didn't graduate high school - KaBoom) then you should know that your colors are black and gold - not teal and white. Hate it when any "fan" wears non-school colors (except special occasions like St Pat's green or Cancer awareness Pink).
