Default South Dakota

Time to move on. Amazingly, we are 0-2 in the league right now, and we simply have to get back on the winning track. Frankly, this is a game we should win handily at home, even as banged up as we are.

I hope to see our team really improve upon offensive execution this week, as its been really bad the last few weeks.

The good news is that the schedule, seemingly, lets up quite the bit the rest of the way. SDSU and MSU on the road should be really tough games, but games against USD, Ill St, WIU, and YSU are all games we should win.

I think there are two potential losses left: YSU and SDSU. Anything else would be pretty surprising.

Gotta love our QB...

YSU will be a much more challenging opponent than MSU.
but frankly, if UNI plays the way they did yesterday, they have the potential to lose any of the remaining games. All depends on which team shows up (and the injury situation)

The Coyotes are 2-1 in conference so far this year, with wins over MSU and Indiana State, and a loss at WIU. And the last two times we've played them, UNI won each by less than a touchdown (19-14 and 24-21), though both of those were in Vermillion.

@Sullyside73: UNI HC Mark Farley: WR Phil Wright out for year. Foot injury suffered vs McNeese St.

We are snake-bitten with injuries this year...

USD is #1 in the nation (for FCS, and in all of D-I for that matter) in passing defense (least passing yards allowed), allowing just 105 yards per game through the air.

Besides returns I don't think Carnes played. I don't recall any "wildcat" with him in there

The way things are trending for both teams, us Coyotes are quite optimistic going into this game. Our defense has been absolutely stellar, but the team has its wins in spite of every other part of the team. Special teams miscues and turnovers have made would be comfortable wins into nail biters, but thankfully we've pulled out a few wins so far.

Last week the top rated passing team in the MVFC in Indiana State came to the Dome, and we gave up 82 through the air. Two interceptions thrown in the end zone and a muffed punt almost put us under though despite us doubling their offense. Same story as the week before, but we've improved over last year and took both games 17-14 instead of dropping them.

Offense has been improving, and we are now 2-0 under new QB Kevin Earl. We dropped two games we might have won @NAU and @WIU if we had switched QBs sooner, but better late than never. A pair of powerful freshmen running backs is what we have on the ground, and the passing game has been revamped with the true pocket passer and former "dual threat" QB Josh Vander Maten lining up at receiver.

We would love to have this win, it's been 3 years since we won on the road. If USD eliminates turnovers and can get around 300 yards we should win, might be too much to ask for though. Our defense is far too good for us to be blown out, and I expect a relatively close game even if our offense comes out flat.

Hopin we get a better outcome than our last trip to Cedar Falls...

The way things are trending? We lost by 1 at NDSU and went to OT against a good SIU team. You guys have beat 3 pretty terrible teams.

No offense, but if we win by less than 14 we might as well give up hope on this season.

That was a really good game at NDSU, but SIU beat you way, way worse than the scoreboard indicated. The last 5 quarters for your team have been ugly, I think it's fair to say that putting up another performance like you did last week would make for one close game. I'm not trying to rag on your team, but the way things have been going it shouldn't shock anyone if this is a close game.

It would shock everyone. Just because you guys aren't in last place doesn't mean you are ready to compete yet. If we don't win by 14+ I will assume we will probably lose every game for the rest of the season.

With our injuries (see last 5 quarters) I definitely don't put this one in the easy "W" column. In fact, I don't think we have any of those left this year. Much of the team that beat ISU and destroyed McNSU will be in civi's on the sideline or undergoing major treatments to play the rest of this season, unfortunately.

It's so frustrating the injuries that are happening to this team.

Just a Coyote fan speaking his mind, expecting a much closer game than some of you guys are. Overlooking your opponent is a dangerous thing, and for your sake I hope that your team and coaches take this one seriously.

You're really hoping for a closer game than UNI fans are. Expectations lead to nothing but trouble. Who's overlooking USD? The past 2 games have been close. It's the condescension from fans of a team that just won their first two conference games that's the issue. Be assured, Panther fans know how quickly defeat can be snatched from the jaws of victory. Don't worry, this game can be close, but it's your attitude that's causing the response you're getting.

I'm not promising a USD win or anything, but our defense has been amazing so far and I don't see it just falling apart against UNI. Maybe it will, this is the toughest team we've faced yet, but I still think it keeps us in the game for a good long while. Scrap together a few scores and hold onto the ball and we might just win it.

I was in Sioux Falls the other day, and happened to stop into a Target. Was half tempted to slap up a few UNI stickers in their "fan central" aisle with the USD and SDSU stuff.

but not really, cuz that's a lakesbison-esque move, haha. Plus I didn't have any UNI stickers along (I was decked out in UNI gear, though)

Sad state of things when two losses means no students show up. Pisses me off to no end and makes me want to walk into classes and dorm rooms and chew some people out. Have some faith and love for your team for crying out loud!
