  • Iowa State v Incarnate Word

? How is Incarnate Word allowed to play 12 games? A game vs. Iowa State would be their third FBS opponent in 2018.

The Cyclones will host Incarnate Word, an FCS program out of San Antonio, Texas, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m., the school announced Wednesday. If ISU is in the Big 12 championship game or Incarnate Word is in the FCS playoffs that day, the game will be canceled.

Iowa State will pay Incarnate Word $300,000 and provide charter aircraft for the team's travel to Ames. Iowa State paid South Dakota State $425,000 for the originally-scheduled Sept. 1 game.

Incarnate Word has a game against an FCS independent North Alabama on 11/15 that they are buying out. Not sure if ISU or Incarnate word is paying for the contract but I would assume that game would have been cheap to buy out anyways.

Would have though Incarnate Word was getting a bigger buyout with how desperate ISU had to be to find a team. I guess I don't know how much the charter will cost. Maybe ISU is paying the North Alabama buyout also.

It is pathetic how utterly transparent they were about literally buying an easy win to pad their W/L record. They weren’t even considering adding a game where they had even the slightest chance of losing.

Why is it pathetic? Why would ISU go schedule a team that would give them a possible loss? This game is a perfect opportunity to get the redshirts and 2nd-3rd string some valuable reps. With the round robin Big 12 schedule, ISU should always pad their non-con with the 2 easiest opponents possible, plus the cyhawk game.
You sound like a hawk fan that thinks ISU should have tried to schedule an SEC school.
Speaking of SEC schools, lets not forget that Alabama is hosting The Citadel on Nov 17th.

How is them adding this game any different than how many people on here want UNI to schedule more games against PFL/MEAC/etc. opponents for their non-conference games?

I have to believe they had very limited options.

An FCS team who has a shot at the playoffs isn't going to take this game.

Winning is more fun than losing.

Correct, the realistic teams were few. And after this weekend, there will be even more teams looking for replacements.

Here’s an article on how the search went down.

Of course it is pathetic. And par for the course for elite teams as well as Iowa State. How many times have I read someone say that they wish UNI had more cupcakes in the non-conference schedule? Same thing. And for Iowa State, getting enough wins to be bowl eligible (or reach a better bowl) is huge. It is the way the game is played right now.

I have a friend who is an SDSU grad and he just received rain check tickets to attend the game with Incarnate Word. He tells me the SDSU fans consider this a slap in the face. I'm not sure I disagree with him. However I do understand the scheduling issues that ISU is dealing with in replacing this game.

DId ISU have to pay SDSU the guarantee even though there was officially no game? Also, ISU better hope they have 5 wins before this game, Nobody will show up in December for a team not going to a bowl

ISU paid SDSU $425,000 for basically nothing.
If he bought his tickets through SDSU and wants a full refund, talk to SDSU’s AD.
If he bought tickets through ISU or Stubhub, then he is getting what everybody else is getting. ISU doesn’t care who you’re a fan of when issuing refunds. And I don’t even know if Stubhub issues refunds for things like this.
I paid $50 to a scalper for a ticket. I will receive nothing in return. Life goes on.

Yes, ISU paid. Once a team makes the trip, they are entitled to their money regardless if there was a game or not.

The players serving any 1 game suspension were allowed to dress for the Iowa game.

The AD and president met and determined their suspensions had been served.
They were basically not able to participate during any team activities for the week leading up to the game, didn’t dress and didn’t take the field with the team. The guy serving a required 1 game suspension didn’t play vs Iowa anyways. Any other suspended players were suspended at the coach’s descretion so its not like they were required to be suspended in the first place.
