  • UNI Players waived

First wave of cuts are today in the NFL. Here is what I have found.

Harrell gets cut from the Panthers:

Setterstrom still with Saints, 2 O-Linemen were cut

Hannam still with Seahawks, 1 TE was cut.

Hoambrecker is waived (YEAH!!!) On to a new team! Good luck Mac!

Sapp, Berlin, Sandy, Ward, and Galles still alive!
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

I think Berlin is under contract for this year. Think he is pretty safe.
Think Hannam is in the same situation.

Hopefully the Vikings will pick Hoambrecker up. They are having kicking problems up there.

No kidding...you'd think a team that plays in a DOME would love a kid who played his college career in a Dome 4 hours down the road!

Talked to Hoambrecker yesterday -- (he's back in CF for the time being) -- said he thinks if anything happens in the NFL, it'll be within the next few weeks. Sounds like he does have an idea of where he could be going, however, he said if the NFL doesn't happen this year, he might pursue the NFL in Europe until something happens back here in the states again. For now, he's pursuing his graduate studies further.

And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Amen, I would love to see the vikes at least give him a shot to win the job, because I know he would win it. That'd be a win-win situation for me (the vikes would be better, AND another panther would be in the NFL)

              No Clue...

CAn someone answer this for me?

When a player is in training camp with an NFL squad and then gets cut, were they being paid to compete in camp while trying to earn a roster spot?

I've always wondered that! Any ideas?

And Sandy stays for another few days (hopefully longer). Another safety was cut though (listed right behind him in the depth chart).

I've felt all along that the Vikes should go after Hoambrecker. Seems to me he would be a perfect fit for a team that I root for anyway....

looks like Mac is looking to switch positions after being waived...check out this link

he is listed just on the last line of the Monday, September 30 transactions.....

Vogt, Tierney and Hoambrecker would have been a deadly combination!!

It doesn't look like we will see Mac in a Vike uniform:

Conway in, Elling out as Vikings kicker
The Vikings moved quickly and unexpectedly Tuesday night to resolve their shaky kicking situation, agreeing to terms with veteran Brett Conway to replace incumbent Aaron Elling. Conway, 29, has kicked for five teams in his eight-year career; he converted 14 of 19 kicks last season for Cleveland and the New York Giants.

Sapp makes the 52 Man cut.

                          Cliff Crosby
“He was very competitive and very close to making the football team. But we went with a younger player in Benny Sapp, a young corner that showed some real instinct in tackling and making plays on the line of scrimmage and in press coverage techniques and fundamentals. We think with good coaching we can take advantage of that and help him become a better player.”

                          Sandy gets waived:

The Titans made a move to bolster their depleted defensive end corps Wednesday, claiming Nathaniel Adibi off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Adibi, a fifth round pick in 2004, was a pass rush specialist at Virginia Tech. To make room, Tennessee waived safety Justin Sandy.

                          Setterstrom was also cut

And Dedric Ward, Ryan Hannam, Eddie Berlin, Mike Furrey, Brad Meester, Kurt Warner, and Derrick Frost all made the cut. (anyone I miss?)

Sandy made the practice squad. He was at Saturday's game but heading back to Nashville for practice today.

All players are paid for camp time. This is in addition to their contracts, if they have one. So technically, the undrafted free agents make the same amount of $ as the Payton Manning's during training camp. I am not sure what the amount is but everything is relative in the NFL. According to the Denver Post players that are signed to the practice squad earn a modest $75/year. Not bad.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times
