I see that Atlantic City casinos are challenging the Justice Department's ban on sports betting (with a few exceptions). If they succeed, I would think that Iowa Casinos would offer sports betting as soon as possible. What does everyone think of that possibility?

But I've never had the urge to go to any casino in the first place, so it is a non-issue for me.

Re: Sports Betting at Casinos in Iowa?
I've gone to The Isle twice and the casino in Prairie Meadows once and it would have been better without the smoking, but I can't say if sports betting would have made it better for me.
I got in played my blackjack and slots and got out. I don't think Iowa needs sports betting, but if they get it so be it. I won't protest it.

Re: Sports Betting at Casinos in Iowa?
If Iowa approves gambling on college sports, the NCAA will never host an event in Iowa. They stayed away from Oregon for years because they allowed gambling on college sports and then a couple years ago the state banned it again and so the NCAA agreed to have a men's first round site in Portland.
This may not be a big deal but Iowa has had its share of NCAA events over the last number of years including DIII wresting nationals, DI women's hoops opening rounds and the DI cross country championships.

Stereotype for sure but a good metaphor none the less

...that and sparsely populated. If California, New York, Texas, Florida, etc are able to legalize sports betting (and choose to do so), then the NCAA would drop this stance.

Give it time, if the state can allow it, they will. Legislators in this state seem to think that people travel to Iowa to gamble and stay for the convention halls located in any city over 25k. Oh, and guess who’s paying for the infrastructure for the casino and the convention centers- the tax payers of the future.
Steep down from the soap box..... Sorry Newsy, this thread just brought it out in me.

I DO think the State is going to screw up even further and allow additional casinos to be built.
No worriesLast edited by Newsbreaker; 03-25-2009, 07:31 PM.
