  • NCAA Changes Thread

I think it's time we start a thread to catch all of the new and upcoming NCAA changes.

First big one just dropped and changed scholarship limits.

(FBS) Football going from 85 to 105
    Men's Basketball going from 13 to 15
Volleyball going from 12 to 18
Softball going from 13 to 25
    Baseball from 11.7 to 35

We kind of knew that was coming but the bombshell is that every sport is now an 'equivalency' sport meaning that partial scholarships are allowed which opens the door to a partial scholarship and a bunch of NIL money for the power leagues.

This is all bad news for our level but, as always, adapt or die.

The football one really hurts. Seems like on the basketball side, kids are not going to take a scholarship to sit on a bench somewhere now but I'm betting there are a lot of players at FCS schools that would take a B10/SEC football scholarship. Doubling the softball scholarships will certainly hurt UNI as well.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Why does the NCAA so often do exactly the opposite of what seems to make sense?

Because the NCAA is dominated by the Money 4 conferences, which benefits your beloved ISU Cyclones, at the behest of every mid-major in the country!

          Exactly this.

Every action taken in the last 30 years has been to ensure that the P? is an exclusive club that others have zero opportunity to crack.

I readily admit that the most recent changes are "good" for some programs, but "bad" for most and "bad" overall for college sports.
