  • Teams to root against list.

While I think our playoff odds are looooooong, I've compiled a list of teams to root against if we want to have any shot at the playoffs.

    Delaware
    UMass
    Appalachian State
    Furman
    Weber State
    Northern Arizona
    Montana State
    Eastern Washington
    McNeese State
    Eastern Kentucky
    Tennessee State
    Florida A&M
    Morgan State
    Colgate
    Lafayette
    Holy Cross
    Cal Poly
    UC-Davis
    Liberty

    Thats all!

We also need to MSU to lose to SIU, and preferably win the rest of their other games.

If they somehow won out, including beating SIU, they would be 8-3 and have a good win. Wouldn't that be freaky?

I think your list is too long with all due respect Joe...

I think we can already eliminate--

Morgan State- They still have to play FAMU and SC State
Liberty- They play in the Big South and have been much better and not gotten in
Cal Poly- Has to play at UC Davis and will have a really tough time getting to seven
The Patriot League is only getting one. Period.
I also am pretty sure we get in over either OVC team.

Delaware and UMass are the two keys, IMO

I agree with Morgan State, I was just saying "for now". If they lose to either of those teams they are out.

Liberty could get to 9 wins, we would have 8, although one of theirs is a D2 win. I doubt they get in over us, but the committee could feel like they want to justify it because they didnt get in last year....who knows.

Cal Poly- Still has to play Weber too. One more loss and theyre done but if they win out they will have a shot. Gotta root against them until they finally lose. Should UC-Davis be on this list? They could get to 8-3.

Patriot League will most likely only get one. But what if Colgate finishes 10-1 and doesnt get the auto. Theyd have an arguement at least.

We probably get in over EKU, and I say Tennessee State cause they still have the inside track for the auto and if they win, EIU could be a decent candidate at 8-3....maybe.

Basically I was just trying to cover all the possible bases. Some of those people we may be ahead of anyway even if we both win out, but I'm just covering all the bases possible. Its a comprehensive list.

The way I see it right now it looks like this.

            CAA: 5
            MVFC: 2
            SoCon: 2
BSC: 2 (or 1 and Cal Poly)
            SLC:2
            OVC, PL, MEAC: 1

            We want that to change.

I like your thinking. This is going to be fun to watch, I wish we didn't need to watch it, but it will be fun...

Temporary Griz Fans! I love it, thanks for the support.

If it makes it any better, I'm rooting for UNI to win out and get into the playoffs as well.

Easy. Asking me to root against them more is like asking Nigel Tufnel to crank it to 11.

Weber State? Did you go to UNI also? I'm just curious, because thats a strange connection.

Re: Teams to root against list.

UNI is at #12 in the polls. If UNI were to win out, I would have to imagine they would be a top 10 team, correct?

If so, is there precedent for a top 10 ranked team not making the playoffs (not mentioning HBCU's and Ivy League)?
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

he has a thing for purple cats.
Next thing you know, he'll be attending Kansas State.
(sidenote, I just did a google image search for "kansas state" just to confirm that K-State did in fact have purple as a school color, and a feline mascot, and the third image that popped up just seemed rather out of place)

My wife went to and graduated from UNI. She went to grad school at Utah and I went back to school while we lived there.

I grew up in Cedar Rapids and have always followed the Panthers, followed them when my wife (then girlfriend) was in college at the end of the TA era and picked things back up when we moved back to Iowa 3 years ago.

Ths is what I have been thinking for a long time. How can they justify keeping a top ten team out of the playoffs?
