  • Two University of Northern Iowa football players have....

Two University of Northern Iowa football players have earned weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference following their effort against Iowa State on Saturday.

Sophomore placekicker Tyler Sievertsen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy HS) earned the MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week as he scored seven points in his first start as a placekicker for the Panthers. Sievertsen scored his first collegiate points on a 42-yard field goal in the first quarter, which gave UNI a 3-0 lead over the Cyclones. Sievertsen added a second field goal from 24 yards out in the second quarter to up the Panther lead to 6-0. Sievertsen then connected only his only extra point attempt of the evening in the third quarter to give UNI a 13-7 advantage over Iowa State.

Redshirt freshman running back David Johnson (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton HS) secured MVFC Newcomer of the Week honors for his play against the Cyclones. Johnson scored a pair of touchdowns in his collegiate debut against Iowa State. Johnson scored his first touchdown as a Panther on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to give UNI a 13-7 lead over Iowa State. Johnson then latched onto an 80-yard touchdown pass from Tirrell Rennie to put the Panthers on top, 19-14, with 4:17 left vs. the Cyclones. Johnson finished the day with 119 all-purpose yards. He had 10 rushes for 36 yards and two receptions for 83 yards.

No. 4-ranked UNI will play at No. 16-ranked Stephen F. Austin on Saturday in Nacogdoches, Texas.
