We don't call that TO...ISU runs 30 more second off of the clock (maybe more) then scores....yep that situation doesn't work any better

I loved the fact that Farley put all of his faith and the confidence on the defense to make a goal line stand to win the game. They didn't quite pull it off, but I like the tone he set by doing it that way instead of telling them to just let ISU score rapidly so-as to get the ball back into the offense' hands.

Heres the link to that video.

No way that call gets overturned based on that video, but I defiantly don't think it confirms the call on the field. When he catches the ball I don't think his knee is down in the endzone. Can't really tell, but thats just my opinion.

Yeah, valid point. Like I said earlier, letting them score is a dangerous move, and not just for the final score of one game as you aptly point out above. I know it's not a realistic move, but I admit it did cross my mind. 1st and goal at the 1, against a super mobile QB, is a tough stop for any defense.

It's all moot if you stop the 30 yard pass that got them to the one yard line anyway. Oh well, onward and upward.

Honestly, IMO his knee was out of bounds when he caught that ball, no ifs ands or buts about it. I was right in that corner of the end-zone as it was right in the Panther area where he caught it. I saw it for the first time, and multiple times after the "catch" that it was replayed.

Still, there is no way to over-rule what was called, so we must go with it. We still can win the National Championship which is much more than what ISU can claim to do this year. This was a test for us to play a team in their own house with a inferior team. The calls weren't in our favor, especially the two times we got called for 3 penalties. Never the less, it was a learning experience, which will lead us to our ultimate goal, which nobody in FBS can legitimately claim. We will be national champions, if we play like we did on the 3rd of September. Mark my words, if our play is as equal, if not better, we will win the National Championship.
Raised a Hawkeye, Panther by choice.

That said, Farley called one of the dumbest timeouts I've seen in awhile right before that. They complete a pass to our 1, 1st and goal with less than 2 minutes left. Farley calls our LAST timeout. Salmon had to cough up his lunch seeing that. They score.

It forced him (Salmon) into two semi-stupid trick plays to try and hit a home run. ALL YOU NEEDED WAS A FIELD GOAL TO WIN. With the timeout in the bank, you can afford to call plays that are designed to clear out the middle for a completion, all the while setting yourself up for field postion to kick the game winner. That's all on Farley for robbing him of our last timeout, not Salmon. Sure, the attempted WR pass (whiped out by penalty) and hook and ladder were kind of lame, but his hands were somewhat tied.
I think other reason and maybe the main reason Farley called a timeout is we were substituting players on defense and we had 12 players on the field.

That's possible. It wasn't obvious from where I was sitting, but I wasn't looking for it either.

I'm not trying to be too harsh on Farley, just trying to be a critical thinking fan. I still think he's a damn good coach. That said, IMO anyone who is going to be critical of Salmon for his play calling in the last minute needs to realize that Farley really put him in a spot by burning our last time out. His hands were tied.

Farley made the right calls on defense in that goal line stand. timesouts included. I was hoping we would have a goal line stand like Iowa had against syracuse a few years back...but just didnt happen....sure close tho!

If his knee isn't down, his feet still are.

The last time out was problematic.

Its the first two called in the second half that killed us. Those were wasted. We have done this for years, usually on defense. Leaves us hanging if they are needed at the end of the game.

It was a great catch, in bounds. Get over it, move on, we blew yet another 4th quarter lead in a big game to blow a chance at greatness...just add it to the list.

Richmond 08, to me, is the single biggest letdown of them all. There is no doubt in my mind we would have beat Montana in the final game and have a NC right now.

I'm way proud of the success UNI has had in it's history but I can't stand thinking about in just the last 5-6 yrs we are a handful of plays from winning a title, having 4 BCS victories, another playoff appearance (09), and another semi-final appearance (08).

                              oh what could have been!
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."
