I will not vote for the "mid-season Walter Payton award winner" because it doesn't include the most reasonable candidate, Tirrell Rennie.

Raised a Hawkeye, Panther by choice.

My thoughts exactly. His stats aren't flashy but he's the best player on possibly the best FCS team. 9 total TD's with no turnovers and he leads ALL D-I quarterbacks in rushing. Those passing numbers would be even better if some of his receivers hadn't dropped so many passes in the first few games. UNI's offensive scheme doesn't emphasize flash or passing deep so I guess Rennie gets the short end of an even shorter stick. Oh well. There is only 1 trophy that I care about and I'm Rennie feels the same way

I also will not vote for Bell, my reason Herb Donaldson (WIU running back from a few years back)! He was on pace to win the Walter Payton award and be a pretty high draft pick. Then they played UNI and they held him to like 40-50 rushing and his season fell apart after that. I expect the same thing to happen here, UNI does a good job of shutting down good running backs.

Shakir bell is the only reasonable candidate. He is not a qb, so he doesn't get the ball in his hands EVERY PLAY (former college quarter back here)...I will take two hundred yards per game...

As the FCS's best dual threat QB I think he deserves to be up there. Probably isn't the frontrunner as there are several QB and RB with some eye popping stats but Rennie has been incredibly solid this season and lack of stats can be blamed on dropped passes and an offensive scheme that doesn't need him run for 100t and pass for 300. Thankfully we have complements to him. Like I said this inst the trophy we should concern ourselves with but Tirrell deserves to be considered as much as anyone

Bell certainly deserves to be considered as well since he has rushed for more yards than any other FCS player. Just wanted to make sure that's clear from me

Not sure the last time back to back to back 200 yard games were possible (granted the one was 199)...he is the most prolific offensive player in 1aa football (just watch Youngstown state for proof) at this point.

Ths week will determine if he needs to clear space on the mantel.

How many yards from scrimmage does he have this year so far?

Rennie has 1,079 yards from scrimmage (683 passing and 399 rushing) and 9 total TD's.

                    Bell 779 yards from scrimmage (767 rushing 12 receiving) 8 total TD's.

The fact that you think this is an appropriate comparison speaks volumes.

Rennie touches the ball on every play though, not saying bell will keep up his current pace but remember he barely played against Penn state...

I didn't say it was appropriate....I asked a question and answered it.

Nice to see you are good at drawing conclusions.

Bell is very very good. However, at this point Rennie probably gets the nod from the voters.

I've got a buddy at Coastal, he said this guy is quite the character (in case that wasn't already obvious). He might seem like he belongs in a looney bin with Lakes but I guess he's just a pretty colorful and likable guy.
