You are wrong. The attendance growth, the merchandising numbers, the advertising dollars (learfield) and the viewership numbers of our two athletics weekly TV shows proves it.

I dont believe so. The good people of South Dakota are passionate about a lot of things but college football is not one of them. The sports landscape is dominated by the NFL (Vikes/Broncos) and college sports just aren't as prevalent here. That's not a knock on the state, it's just the way it is here

You are missing the point. Compare SDSU fan support today versus 10 years ago. The growth trajectory is what I am referencing. Jacks support was nowhere near UNI in 2003 - now we are ahead.

Yes the Vikings and Broncos have more fans - duh! It is the NFL! How many Bears fans are there in Eastern IA - hell of a lot.

The growth of people caring in SD is what is happening and the market had huge growth potential because of virtually no competition in our state.

Seeing the shelves of the premier retailers in the area stock their shelves with our gear speaks to the demand and growth of our fan base. People all over SD are getting Jacked. For years local sports fans were only concerned with Nebraska, Iowa, the Vikings, and then a few straggler Iowa State and Gopher fans. Now SDSU gets top billing and more of a following locally. Making the playoffs twice in the short time since we moved to D1 in FB and the big dance in men's and women's basketball were key to us solidifying that local interest. Just go to KELO, KDLT, KSFY, The Argus Leader, WNAX radio - all of those are the dominant local media - the Jacks are the lead story. We have two different SDSU athletics television shows for goodness sakes!
Now we have momentum on our side. The Athletic Department is stepping on the accelerator with $100 million of facilities upgrades over 5 years. The result is that SDSU will soon have a one school battle with NDSU for the top FCS recruits as the two options of choice. For MBB we are recruiting Valley level talent for sure. WBB we get the best girls in the region already - everyone wants to play for our WBB, he is a living legend in the WBB coaching ranks.

Our programs' coaching tenure speak to their commitment to SDSU and their belief that this is a destination job for them. They (Stig, Nagy, Johnson) have all been offered other jobs - they are not interested. And why would they, all of them are in a position to have top level facilities, fan support, donor support, packed stadiums, institutional support to do things the right way. Not cutting corners takes longer but the results are more permanent. All those marquee sports can compete for championships every year.

All of the above just feed on each other and keep building in a snowball effect. Took a while to get it rolling but now that it is everything is happening fast and furious.
lakes, is that you? I swear if you switch out some minor details ("bizon" for "jacks", Minnesota for Dakotas), I've read exactly the same thing on here before from him.

also, why would the retailers in your area stock anything but "jacks" gear? It's not like you're competing with two in-state FBS schools like we are.

I am not Lakes. People seem to take offense to what he says, but I have no problem with him. He has been critical of SDSU at times and that is fine.

Which is exactly why SDSU and NDSU will be moving up to fill that void.

Huh? Lol, by what measure? None.

You love your team, and thats awesome. But you are living in fantasy land with some if the crap you are saying, you are just talking right out of your ass.

I like to visit the message boards of other teams in the MVFC on occassion to get a better feel of what is going with each team. Some posters bring a lot of insight and knowledge to the discussions. You don't KnowJack.

                          Sports Network's call on game:

No. 17 Northern Iowa (4-3, 0-3 Missouri Valley) at No. 25 South Dakota State (4-4, 1-3)

                          Kickoff: 3 p.m.

What to know: Let's officially refer to this matchup as the "Battle of the Sucker Punched," because no one - not even these two teams - saw what was coming this season.

South Dakota State and Northern Iowa both, at one point this season, owned Top 10 spots in the national polls with unbeaten records. Now the two squads have a combined 1-6 record in the Missouri Valley Conference.

It's likely because of their overall records and their playmakers in the offensive backfield that they retain spots in the Top 25 altogether. But things have to change for both teams if they still want a shot at the postseason.

The problem for the Jackrabbits is they've been figured out offensively. If an opposing defense can at least limit Zach Zenner, then they limit the offense as a unit. Northern Iowa has struggled defensively without Jake Farley manning the linebacking corps and anchoring the defense.

Northern Iowa has won the last three meetings between the two programs and holds a 28-17-2 all-time series lead. The Jackrabbits lead the nation in passes intercepted and will need its defense working at 100 percent Saturday to hold down the explosive David Johnson and Sawyer Kollmorgen.

Prediction: Northern Iowa 31, South Dakota State 27

Sawyer has been far from explosive recently. At least in a positive way. If he was even playing like his average self we would have won our last two games.

Not only is their AD from UNI, but there are 4 more in their AD dept. From UNI. Leon Costello and his wife, and 2 in the AD marketing, can't remember their names.

Eric Hrubes is up there and I don't know the other one.

I just find it funny that they've decided to be UNI Lite. We should be flattered...
