I dunno. That system lets 30+ teams end the season on a positive note, instead of just one.

Maybe they should just have a reverse playoff. If you win, your season is finished. If you lose, your team moves on to the next round.

This way, only one team will end the season with a loss.

"national champions" determined solely by polls are lame
winning a "championship game" between two teams determined solely by polls is still pretty lame, but at least there is one game involved.

Using bowl games as a method of post season play is also pretty lame.

I was curious about this so I have been researching a little bit, and I find myself even more confused.

From Wikipedia: "From 1964 to 1972, four regional bowl games were played that led up to a wire service poll to determine the final champion of Division II's predecessor, the NCAA College Division."

But, when you look at the list of supposed "national champions" its a hodge-podge list of teams in which several didn't even play in one of the four "bowl" games.

Conclusion: UNI could easily claim a 'national title' if they wanted to, as it seems that's what everyone else did if they had a good season, including NDSU whom claimed 4 of them during this period. Meaning, half of their DII championship legacy that those moroons still beat their chest about is pretty laughable and arbitrary.

From what I read, the only teams that claimed them were #1 in the final polls.

There were actually 6 theoretical national champions that year. Totally get why we wouldn't claim it. We claim the Pecan Bowl championship.

EDIT: None of the other bowl winners claim a title that year.

Accurate to say UNI has not won a champioship yet at FCS level. To date, a total of 21 schools have won IAA/FCS championships. Be happy NDSU won two all because of you.
