no issues have been brought up, so not sure what your point is outside of arguing with someone who you clearly don't like based on recent posts. not sure if you budget at all but if the coach would rather do this (fly in the day of) and save up to 8k why wouldn't you? how is that not a positive to mention? all I did was mention the cost savings. to even write the post you did is a complete joke as I said nothing about needing to save money or it being a problem. saving up to 8k can only be seen as a positive if thats what he'd rather do anyway.

In a perfect world, flying in same-day works great.
But in a world where flight delays aren't exactly rare (even when privately chartering a plane, there are often issues with getting the plane there), things can get a bit challenging sometimes.

Yes, such travel plans were common in the T.A. days, but the T.A. days were pre-2001, and there were some fairly significant changes to air travel in 2001.

I don't even look at screennames 90% of the time until after I read the post - if at all. It's normally not unless I reply to the post I read who wrote it. Whatever your history with me is means nothing when I'm reading posts.

If the coach wants to fly in on game day then fine. If the reason for doing it is because it saves $8,000 out of a $18,000,000 budget then we have significant issues within the budget that go far beyond hotel accommodations for a football team on a trip to Indiana, which goes back to my point of if saving the money on this one trip is a reason for it then the entire AD needs to be evaluated. That one night is .04% of the athletic budget - point zero four percent.

Ironically, this is the same board (not you necessarily since I have to point that out because I don't remember who) was trying to convince me that flying the football team to Pocatello, ID (actually maybe flying into somewhere else and busing in because I'm not sure Pocatello's airport can handle charter jets) and paying for a hotel there plus flight and food made more financial sense than bringing in a buy game and getting another home game.

This would be my main concern. It's only a 2 hour (or so) flight. So I'm not real concerned about well conditioned athletes spending 2 hours on a plane, having a couple hours to "stretch out" after it, and play a game.

Charter jets avoid most delays, and I'm assuming there aren't going to be a ton of delays on a chartered flight between Waterloo and Terra Haute. However, you're playing a dangerous game of "Hope there isn't a single issue with our plane or weather".

There were delays/complications with UNI's trip to NAU a few years ago, and on one trip to Missouri State, and on a trip to Delaware.....

The MSU game was a mess.

IIRC the team left at like noon on Friday and got to Springfield about 65 minutes before the game on Saturday. Players were getting dressed and taped up on the plane and bus to the stadium. It was, as was joked about earlier, 100% like high school. Roll up, get off the bus, play, and leave.

It doesn't matter if we fly or drive. Any transportation manner could be subject to delays or issues. Obviously, whatever method chosen I hope the travel is safe and that the team has a block of time to relax before the event.

My concern is how will we match up against this team. What are their strengths? Weaknesses? Is this a game that we could not take serious enough and get our butts kicked? Indiana State is a team that I don't know much about.

Sleep in your own bed, don't sit around a hotel conference room all day. It's not a bad thing.
In the 2 seasons I played under TA we only had 2same day trips. Once to Ames and the other to WIU.

                    Gameday!

Side note: I HATE Indiana State's stadium. They only have stands on one side of the field! So it feels like they're playing a pickup game in a field.

Well, the Trees are 2-1, with one win over D-II Quincy and another over Eastern Illinois 55-41 (currently 0-4 but was in the FCS playoffs as recently as 2015). Their loss was to Louisville 31-7, who is 2-2 in FBS. We are still in the FCS Top 25 and have been ranked all season so far; AFAIK the Trees have not been ranked. SportsbookReview.com has us as a 17 1/2 point favorite, though we have lost in Terra Haute before. Personally, I don't like the situation where we are playing a road game on a short week and the home team is coming off a bye, so I'm a bit nervous.

Blind, stupid homerism tells me we win 19-17.

I've had a bad feeling about this game for a long time. They've got a good, young, hungry head coach that could sell this being the game that starts to turn their program. A loss here and we're staring a 1-7 start right in the face. Brutal.

I traveled with the team a lot from about 2003 to 2007. Many of our trips were there and back in one day. Not all - but many. Only had one major issue and that was on the way to Northern Arizona. Ended up flying in on a Hooters plane and the pre-game meal was the sandwiches on the airplane. Multiple delays out of Waterloo due to mechanical issues. We won the game so it all worked out.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

You flew in a hooters plane and didn't have actual hooters for lunch? That's super disappointing.
