"Elerson G. Smith Earns Second Player of the Week Honor

For the second time this season, UNI junior defensive end Elerson G. Smith earned Missouri Valley Football Conference Player of the Week after racking up 2.5 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss in the 13th-ranked Panthers' 21-14 win over No. 18 Youngstown State Saturday. "

    "Well, that escalated quickly."

Elerson G. Smith: The G stands for "Get that outta here!"
"They keep saying that what really matters is not whether you win or lose, but how you played the game. The trouble is that the best way to determine how you played the game is by whether you won or lost." - Anonymous

Elerson has been practically unblockable since he was added to the regular rotation last year.

He's too damn fast for most OT's to handle.

Great story as he came to UNI at 190 lbs with no other D1 offers and just went to work...and became a heck of a player.
Winning is more fun than losing.

I talked to him at the scholarship luncheon last week and he said his mother insists he gets that "G." initial in his name to distinguish himself from others with a common last name. Great kid, great story and ever-improving football player!

He was in YSU’s backfield all day. 2.5 sacks could’ve been a lot more had their QB not been pretty cool under pressure.

Just a flat out stud. Speed and strength.
