  • Real FCS contenders are generally not losing playmakers.

Omar is leaving a team that barely pulls above .500. One that is losing a ton of its coaching staff, and is slanted heavily to the defense.

If he lands on a moderately successful offensive team, he will have a lot more opportunity to build tape. Especially when the team does not run between the tackles 85% of the time on first and second down.

This is the reality of where we're at right now.

We're simply not an elite FCS program. We're a program that gets playoff bids based on asinine scheduling and the league we play in that has no chance of making a run but they have to take 24.

Many of the better teams in FCS have lost transfers.

NDSU has lost several. JMU has. EWU has. Montana has. This is not a UNI issue. It's the reality of college football.

Central Arkansas just lost the Southland Conference offensive POY to Louisville.

        This happens everywhere.

Enough with the over the top negativity.

I suspect that part of the issue for Omar is that teams aren't throwing his way. He needs opportunities for pass defenses to show his abilities and move up the draft board.

The bigger picture for UNI is...the coaching staff needs to work hard to come out net positive on the transfer portal every year. Or nearly every year. It's how we'll compete in the current state of the game.

Winning is more fun than losing.

Bingo. You need to recruit and develop players who at the very least are good enough to be on the radar of NFL scouts, and ideally a few who are legit enough playmakers for serious consideration on an NFL roster. This level of talent is needed if you want to make real noise in the playoffs and beat other talented teams. Losing guys like Omar Brown and Xavier Williams is going the wrong direction, but seems unavoidable to an extent.

          • Good thing we have a total of three coaches on staff right now, including Farley. I’m sure they are just crushing recruiting right now…

            • NDSU lost Jabril Cox
SDSU is TBD for names lost going into next year.

Benny Sapp is staying when we all know he certainly can play at a much higher level. Spencer Brown didn’t leave. Elerson didn’t leave. Weston didn’t leave. Penning the elder didn’t leave (unless he goes NFL this year) Penning the younger isn’t leaving. Sander isn’t leaving and his younger brother signed. Flater isn’t leaving. Cuvelier isn’t leaving. Brinkman didn’t leave. Van Whye isn’t leaving. Wells didn’t leave. Boyd doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

The program has also brought in Sapp, Hampton, Frazier, Williams, youngest McShane, Day, Fourtenbary, Butcher, etc. plus the kid from Iowa State and WVU this year.

losing Brown sucks, but he wants a new start for his last year and had the ability to go get one. Good for him.

The idea that we all of a sudden are in a portal crisis that no one else deals with is laughable.

Had not known that we were down to 3 coaches. What happened?

Leaving for "bigger, higher-paying" jobs. Successful coaches at successful FCS programs are in demand, which is not a new phenomenon, but a common challenge for programs like UNI, where FBS programs often double their salary and increase their responsibility.

Harris extending Farley is what happened.

the program is dead. Dead dead dead.

Farley loved it to death. And the university let him.

UNI could have produced a reality show titled ‘Pick the worst AD possible’ and not hired as bad.

You know. I've heard worse descriptions.

I don't for a second question Mark's love for UNI and how badly he wants to win a title but that window has been closed for 12 years now. It's time to part ways with David, give Mark that office and find someone to restore this thing.

I think there's always a stigma for these players - especially at the skill positions. You know, they aren't big or fast enough or they are excelling against lesser competition. On the other hand, I think there's a bias in favor of FBS players - especially P5 players.

This is the first I've heard about Farley becoming AD. Is there support for this idea?

There is from the fan base. Who knows beyond that...

I agree NDSU lost Jabril Cox, but let's not say the situations are the same for him and Omar Brown

Cox transferred as a graduate after collecting 3 national championships and about every defensive player of the year award at the FCS level other than the Buck Buchanan. He transferred into a starting role in the toughest football conference in college.

Omar is leaving after three years, with two left due to COVID. His DC has left the team. There is no clear indication that UNI is going to change anything it has done in the past 10 years. If there was a time to change, this would be it. He may even end up better off financially, as the new school will likely give him the cost of attendance money. I wish him luck.

The greater point is that NCAA has turned into a free for all with people looking for playing time, and to a lesser degree, fit with the staff and a chance to win. Omar had the playing time and maybe the coaching staff fit. The chance for winning, meh.
