  • Trevor Penning Earns Senior Bowl Invitation

    Did not see this here:

    "Well, that escalated quickly."

Does he even need it? Iirc he's very high up on draft boards. I mean good for him, don't get me wrong, but usually guys get this for "I can show the league what I'm made of" reasons.

No, he does need it to enhance, or at least solidify, his draft position. The higher he’s selected, the more money he makes. There is very little negotiation involved in rookie contracts. Your earnings are totally determined by where you’re drafted. An FCS player needs every bit of help to move up he board. It’s also the only chance he has to get reps against high level competition, other than playing against Will McDonald from Iowa State (one guy). Spencer Brown’s showing at the Senior Bowl helped him last year.

Mel Kiper had Trevor as his #2 OT and top 10 overall on his board a couple weeks ago.

Could be highest draft pick ever out of UNI.

#2 or #3 OTs drafted last couple years got rookie contracts with $16-19 million total value.

Rookie contracts for first round picks are 4 year deals with 50-60% paid as signing bonus (and thus guaranteed) and the remainder paid over the 4 years.

Its very standardized anymore. Biggest negotiation is probably how much in the signing bonus.

I believe Spencer Brown's deal as a 3rd rounder was about $4.8 million total 4 year value.

Elerson Smith's as a 4th rounder was $4.25 million 4 year value. $750k in signing bonus.

His tape is like offensive line porn.

He throws 260 pound DEs around like children. It's nuts.

Kiper has him 9th overall and The Athletic has him 8th overall. It'll almost be more surprising if he DOESN'T go in the first round.

evidently he is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award:

I'd LOVE to see the award go to a o-lineman, but that will never happen.

Penning is by far the most talked about player through the first quarter. They are showing the love to Mr. Nasty!

Hell, they asked Jim Nagy (Exe Dir of the event) who he is excited to see… Penning, he was just so nasty during practice all week.

He's had a great week. Exactly what he needed to do.

Teams are licking their chops over him.

                He's about to cash checks.

Dude is going to go in the first half of the first round.

He and Brown are making it a bunch easier for UNI offensive linemen to get really good looks going forward.

I’ve seen him all over on draft boards, first and second rounds. Based on coverage, it appears this week may have moved him up on several boards.

Great for him. Good for the team and coaches. Fantastic for recruiting.

Love to see it, saw a couple highlights of his make the rounds, and it was filled with people going "If [blank] doesn't draft him, I'm done being a fan" type posts.

The practice video of Penning this week was comical. He is such a pain in the ass. I mean that in a good way. He was always playing through the whistle and just manhandling guys. It sure would be nice if our offensive system would show off some of these abilities...

Saw he won the award for the “National OL of the Week”. Pretty good recognition considering the competition.

Daniel Jeremiah from NFL Network says that if you put any random P5 name on the front of his jersey he'd be the first tackle taken and in discussion for #1 overall.

Still thinks he goes in the first half of the first round.

In defense of the coaches, it did. That’s why he’s getting the looks he’s getting to begin with. You can rightfully criticize Farley’s offense for some things, but this isn’t one of them.
