Home run. Coaching was not the issue for why the offensive line struggled his last couple years, it was all scheme and that's been rectified.

No other staff turnover. We're really set to make a jump next year.

I’d heard from a former lineman that Nelly had lost his passion over the last couple years of his tenure at UNI. The friend said practices were “a walk through the park” compared to what he went through. Here’s hoping that passion is back and he’s coming in, ready to chew some ass.

I’ve heard rumors Nelly may have initiated the conversation to come back. If that’s the case it may be back

its also possible that the scheme fighting of were those teams going to be a power style as they had been, a spread option team, a spread zone team, etc. just wore on him and he was done with it. Remember his last few years were the Kollmorgen to Rennie battle for offensive scheme and style.

This is where my mind was. Just seems like he was cashing checks the last few years - but then again the offense I’ve staff did that for about 13 years prior to this season for the most part.

It hit me last night… has there been any word on McCray? He was out as DC 4 games in but remained on the staff. His Twitter is pretty quiet but still states DC at UNI.

Surprised that position hasn’t turned over. I don’t see Farley wanting to do it a full season and you’d think he would want someone in place before spring ball.

I know Mark was really happy with what he did with special teams so I'm guessing if he wants to stay, he'll stay. I get the feeling that Mark thinks next year could be 'the year' so he might just keep the defense.

So there’s no defensive coordinator? Maybe not having a defensive coordinator is the way to go. MF can focus on defense and give the offensive coordinator free rein.

                  I like that approach.
                  - The def was definitely championship caliber by seasons end. It really kept him focused on the def, where we’ve all long thought he needed to be.
                  - Based on their recent signings and coach retention (for a change), I get that feeling as well. They appear to be throwing everything possible at next season. After how we started last season on def, it is not the year to make another attempt.

If you are correct, and you usually are, I like it!

Not our coaching change, but John Stiegelmeier is retiring at SDSU. Not unexpected.

Good for John....win an MVFC/National title and 4 straight wins over NDSU. What a finish for him. Hope he enjoys retirement. Love to have our coaches in the same position some year.

Is Keelon Brookins back on staff with UNI?

Saw a post from a high school coach thanking Coach Brookins and UNI football for stopping by.

Saw he's no longer listed on the Kent State coaching staff on their site.

Also...Jeremiah Johnson is now the Safety/Special Teams coach at Kent and they have a new DC. Perhaps this all happened when their HC left to go to Colorado and the new HC brought in some of his own guys?

                        Interesting developments.

McCray, McCarley and Sapp are gone.

Keelon is back to coach safeties. LB coach and one other defensive assistant to hire.

Not shocked on McCarley and Sapp as both our LBs and Safeties regressed big time last year. McCray did a fantastic job with special teams but I can understand him wanting to move on with the demotion.

Was Coach Sapp interested in being in CF for a longer stint? Or was that always meant to be a short term gig to coach his son and fill a need for a season?

Thanks for the update. I was assuming there would be more changes on the def side after last season.

Sapp is no surprise as I always understood him to be hanging around due to his son. Only surprise to me is that it took so long for McCray to move on. I was anticipating a Scott Frost situation (couldn’t get out of the dome fast enough).
