Personally, I think any of the three seem like a good hire. My one question might be where are each of them originally from? DH had worked in Ames, but being originally from the south it was never a fit. Someone from the midwest originally will probably be more successful reaching potential donors.

Slade Larscheid-Spearfish, SD (played football at Northwestern)
Amanda Braun-Brodhead, WI (played basketball at Siena)
All are much better cultural fits.#MACtion

Raised $62M in 9 years as a D2 AD in a tiny population state and has done well at Green Bay with Wisconsin in his back yard. He's the perfect guy for our situation.
Larscheid has raised a bunch of money too, but you're exactly right about sitting in the big chair for the first time.
I love this quote about Moon:
“Josh is a very aggressive, driven Athletic Director that will be a tremendous asset for Green Bay. He makes decisive decisions and is exceptional at getting the community engaged with the direction of the Athletic Department and University. His wife, Andria, is also a great asset and will quickly be involved in University life. Congratulations to the Green Bay community for gaining such an exceptional duo.”

Though I would counter with
There is a big difference in hiring a first-time big chair guy who came in from being an Associate AD for Student Services where his role was focused on compliance (which is ironic given the BOR dinging him and the department for failing to be in compliance) and spent zero time having to fund raise, work with the donors, work with the public, work with media, etc. That views the roll of an AD to be the old school administrator we saw in the very early 00s and before and not the face of the department.
and
A guy who would be a first-time big chair guy whose entire job has been working with the public, donors, fans, alumni, sponsors, etc. to sell the university, to sell the athletic departments, to sell the programs, to sell himself, to everyone for why he should be trusted to run the department and use their donations properly. Also known as what a modern AD is truly required to do.

Impressive group. The Bowlsby effect is real.

Well, it’s not Moon, he just signed a contract extension. https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com...n/73390594007/
Moon’s extension came at a time when he was believed to be a serious candidate for the AD opening at Northern Iowa.
That sometimes tends to get talks ramped up.
“That definitely picks the pace up of discussions,” Moon said. “We were going to talk anyway this spring. But when other schools start looking, it’s a credit to what our group here is doing. What the university and everybody is doing. It’s a good thing.”
Moon was asked whether he would have accepted the job at Northern Iowa if offered.
“I hadn’t got that far yet, in terms of that thought process,” he said. “Obviously, that’s a great school. They have got a great tradition. They have done a lot of great things there, they have football. There are a lot of pieces there that we are working toward (at UWGB), so it didn’t get down to that point of, ‘Oh, my gosh.’”
So unless UNI is willing to pay the buyout clause….Last edited by havok58; 04-24-2024, 09:46 PM.

Yeah. There is absolutely nothing definitive there.
He's playing both sides for more money and good on him for doing so. I think the biggest thing in there is 'they have football'. A motivated guy like that wants to keep moving up and it's hard to get much further than he is without football experience.
Handicapping:
Larscheid 60%
Moon 35%
Braun 5%
The BOR is in session today so it wouldn't surprise me if we get an answer today.
Phenomenal job by Kyle and his staff to get such a great group.#MACtion

Often times the extension isn't an extension. It is adding money to the buy out to help the school/program being left, it is garuantees of future scheduling arrangements (in this case a UNI/UWGB series across the department in some capacity over X years), promises to not take coaches or athletic employees for X years, etc.
It is well known (maybe not well known but known) that Darian signed an extension with D+ in Februrary. Not because he was staying. He knew he was gone. The AD knew he was gone, but it was to help "protect" the school with a buyout and a few other things.
I'd guess more often than not you don't see a big press release in those situations, but it's not like it would be unheard of for it to still be Moon even with that release.
I did some asking around to SDSU friends and they all had nothing but high praise for Larscheild, and the consensus was he wouldn't come to UNI to "play second fiddle with the state to UI/ISU". We all know that there is always going to be some of that second fiddle to those two, but it is a very different feeling than hiring a student services associate AD from one of them. All of them also said, and this may be wanting to keep Slade, "If he raised that kind of money in Aberdeen I don't know how you say no to that if he wants to say yes".
For those unfamiliar with Aberdeen, take Marshalltown and put it where Clarinda is but with even less around it - and reservations all around it.
