This is a difficult question partly because there a so many deserving players, but maybe none that are sure fire to be on there. I get why people want to put Kurt Warner on there, but as a UNI player he isn't deserving, his time after is what he is known for.

      I would go with

Dedric Ward- Two time first team AA
David Johnson- Owns most of UNIs RB records
Eric Sanders- Most successful QB in UNI history
Chad Rinehart- He was the best lineman on the 07 offensive line which was the best in program history

Randy Schultz - two time first team AA who set most every rushing record for UNI
Dedric Ward - two time first team AA
Andre Allen - two time conference POY and one time first team AA
??? so many to slot in here.

Football is way harder than basketball because of sheer numbers.

          I'm cheating--

          Offense-
          Mike Smith
          Dedric Ward
          Eric Sanders
          David Johnson

          Defense-The 4 MVFC 2x DPOYs
          William Freeney
          Andre Allen
          James Ruffin
          Jared Brinkman

Related-The fact that Mark Farley has only been conference COY twice is a ****ing tragedy.

That's a really good list but leaving out a Brad Meester, Chad Reinhart, or really old school Steve Wright (10 years in the pros) is really tough to see.

That D is really good but James Jones and Paup are right there too.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Penning and Brown. Kenny Shedd. Eddie Berlin. Ryan Helming.

It's just so hard to narrow in football

I was thinking about Mike Smith, too. That offense was scary good with him running it.

In general, I would say this can happen when you finish very well in the standings but were expected to. Such as - you win the conference, but you were the preseason favorite. Someone else has a surprise/unexpectedly good season and wins COY.

Smith, Wes Andersen, Carl Boyd, Earl Peebles... that was a fun team for sure.

Cap'n Cat out front, leading the way. Those Mudra teams were powerhouses.
