  • ESPN3 -- The Valley

ESPN and the MVC announced an agreement through 2023-24 that is supposed to allow MVC fans to watch sporting events on ESPN3. Not sure if this also means football too but at the very least we should be able to enjoy basketball games. I'll link it later when I'm not on my phone

    Article from MVC-Sports.com here.

Especially excited about the program involving students in the production. Seems like a no brainer, you have incredibly talented and creative students right there on each campus. Give them some software and a little guidance, cut them loose and let's see what they can create.

Looking forward to see how it improves the way we watch MVC basketball.

It's amazing how far reaching the technology improvements have been in the past 5-10 years. I remember being lucky to find the UNI box score in the DSM Rag after graduating in the early-90s. Now I can watch a game real time on my tablet while flying in plane. Mind boggling.

This does not include football. Sounds like Basketball and Olympic Sports.

I live in Connecticut, so this is great for me! I hope this means no more hassling with the stupid pop-ups on First Row anymore!

The article says "ESPN also retains the rights to the Men's Basketball Tournament semifinals and championship". I thought CBS had the rights to the Men's Basketball Tournament championship game?

ESPN owns the rights and sells them to CBS. That deal just got extended as well. Our title game will be on CBS through 2024. That's a HUGE deal.

Ehh, its cool, but I wouldn't say a huge deal anymore. Everybody has cable now. The final four is going to be on cable next year.

The best part about it is the time slot. Its on a weekend instead of a Mon or Tues, and we aren't competing with other conference tourneys.

                  Re: ESPN3 -- The Valley

I think it's great for those of us outside the Cedar Valley.

That being said, and I'm trying not to be a negative Nancy here, but I would really like to see the university make an attempt to have all games (Football and Basketball) radio feeds online. 1540 has no live stream at all, and through Panthers Inside Access we often get video of the home games and radio of the away games. I love to listen to Rima, Petey and Boyle and it's very difficult to do in KC, especially for home games that have a "video announcer".

I know UNI was going the sat radio route for BBall last year, hopefully that will continue. I'm also optimistic to see what happens with the new Sidearm sports platform. Always give me radio and give me video as well when available. That would be my pick.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now...

They are already online. Although not for free and pretty expensive for what you get IMO.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

What exactly does this mean will be different for next year?

Every game in a Valley building not picked up by ESPN (2/U) or ValleyTV will be available on ESPN3. This also applies to Women's Basketball and Volleyball for next year. Individual schools can choose to put other sports (including football) on ESPN3 if they have the capability to run the broadcast.

All sports played in a Valley venue will be on ESPN 3 from 2019-2024. MVFC members can choose to include football, but are not required to as they will be for all other sports.

                          Thanks!!!!

How does this work when the school produces the video? Does the school also sell the advertising?
