  • 2006-2007 Schedule

Has anything been released regarding next years schedule? Are there any trips to the West where I can catch the Panthers?

  • #2
UNI has about 75% of their schedule already (times and dates, TBD to the public).

    @Iowa, @Bucknell, @Loyola-Chicago, @Bracket Buster Opponent V

vs. Iowa State, vs. UMKC, vs. UW-Milwaukee

This leave 2-3 games remaining (depending on the upcoming legislature voting).
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Does anyone know how good these teams are going to be next year? Do they have any big players coming back. Obviously, I know that Iowa lost a lot, but what about the others? Do we know the quality of players the other teams have? Thoughts?

IMO, the ranking from strongest to weakest is:
Bucknell---lose some but return alot of nucleus
Iowa/ISU (depending on who comes back)
Loyola-Chicago---going to be very very good
UW-Milwaukee---lose alot from last year, don't know about incoming
UMKC---still have Day and the CU transfer...should be better.
Bracket Buster V will depend on who is the opponent

Bucknell-Returns all 5 from 05-06 season, should be tough, especially in their house.
ISU-interesting to see who is playing. Won't matter, this year we'll top 100 in a win!
Iowa-Haluska, Henderson is all they got. Would love to end their home winning streak though!

The other three UW-M, L-C, UMKC all what was said above.

            Bucknell loses:
Kevin Bettencourt (6'2" SG)---started all 32 games, averaging 32 MPG, about 3 APG and RPG, and their 3rd leading scorer at 12.7 PPG...he's the one who hit the 3 late in the game against UNI.

Charles Lee (6'3" WG)---started all 32 games, averaging 33 MPG, 6.0 RPG, 3 APG, and their leading scorer at 13.2 PPG.

Holland Mack (6'5" PF)---played in 18 games, averaging 1.6 MPG and 0.6 PPG

            Tarik Viaer-McClymont (6'7" C)---played in 29 games, averaging 8 MPG, 57% FG%, 1.2 RPG, and 1.3 PPG

Bucknell will be solid in the Patriot League and might get back to the dance because they are so well coached, but they will be miles from the top 25 team of this season. In all the non-conference schedule is much weaker then this past season, which is good because this Panther team will be trying to break in 2 new starters and a bunch of young guys in role playing positions, which would have been murder against last year's schedule. However, all of those teams are either in major conferences or will likely contend for their conference title, which means we'll have no RPI killers

Loyola returns Blake Schilb, who was honorable mention all america last year. He's around 6'7 and very athletic. He had an off game against us last year in the Dome, but he's a damn good player. Loyola is capable of upsetting us if we're not careful.

                    CU Transfer to UMKC

Who is the CU transfer to UMKC? Does the CU mean Creighton or Colorado?

Creighton...he was with them last year. Came in the same class as Tolliver I believe. I honestly can't think of his name.

Blake Schlib has just declared for the Draft. Maybe UNI won't face this talented junior.

The Bison will likely be weaker than this year but the difference may not be as great as you think. They do return 6 of their top 8 players, including their center and point guard, and have a very good recruiting class (by Bucknell standards) coming in.

I didn't report this earlier, but at the April 27th NCAA meeting, the NCAA did away with the 2 in 4 rule as proposed and talked about earlier. So, UNI can now go to an exempt event each year. That means that next year, UNI can play 18 conference games, one exempt tournament, and 8 non-conference games just like this year. The schedule will most likely look like this:

                              18 conference games (9 home/9 away)

                              Home: Iowa State, UMKC, UW-Milwaukee
Away: Iowa, Bucknell, Loyola-Chicago, Bracket Buster V

                              One exempt tournament

This leaves one game remaining to be filled. Most likely, you will see UNI try to get that game at home, plus two home games in an exempt tournament to try to get their season ticket package up to 15 home games. At least that is what I suspect.
