  • Even though no game this weekend, it could be a pretty good night for UNI hoops. SMU currently up 14 on #14 USC with under 7 minutes left and UNLV and Arizona in a back and forth battle. If UNLV can get a win, we could really use Arizona to go on a big winning streak - since we will have beaten 3 of the 4 teams that beat them.
To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

Well, SMU did end up dominating USC, but UNLV fell to Zona in OT (boy, I bet they just hate those two letters this year). Still, Arizona winning helps (not as much as UNLV), and they'll probably steamroll through the dumpster fire that is the Pac-12, and hopefully UNLV does the same in the MW, although the MW honestly looks like a better conference than the Pac.

      • FWIW UNLV losing that game cost UNI 7 RPI points last night. A UNLV win was worth plus 10 for UNI.

When it comes to RPI you pretty much never want your opponents losing. They are indirect RPI impacts. The opponents of your opponents carry so little weight that it hurts you if your opponents losing to your opponents hurts you, even if it’s to a top 5 team.

RPI and selection committee doesn’t play the transitive property game. RPI kind of does, but to very small extent.

        • Too bad UNLV didn't pull that out. Don't know why you'd shoot a 3 when you're down 1 with 10 seconds left in the game, but...

Yes, we want every one of our opponents to win-win-win.
The good news is that our MVC friends won 5 of 6 games yesterday. We play each of them twice, so those are even more important. The MVC is doing really well so far.

          Several big games this week:

          - MONDAY -
Missouri State at North Dakota St

          - TEUSDAY -
          Evansville at Bowling Green

          - WEDNESDAY -
          Loyola-Chicago at (6)Florida
          Drake at South Dakota
          Indiana State at North Texas
          Southern Illinois at Saint Louis
          Illinois State at BYU

          - THURSDAY -
          UT Arlington at Northern Iowa
          Valparaiso at Purdue

          - FRIDAY -
          Hampton at Missouri State

          • Why is Missouri State playing NDSU twice this season?

Sometimes schools will agree to a same year home-and-home... I don't know why, though.

              • Does anyone know UNI's 2018-2019 preseason tournament as well as other confirmed games on the schedule?

                • The tournament is the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands, assuming the hurricane damage has been repaired, as this year they played it in Virginia.

                  • Announced teams thus far for the Paradise Jam...Eastern Kentucky and Mizzou.

UNI will play Iowa in the Big 4 Classic, on the road in the MVC/MWC challenge, and at UT-Arlington. There are a lot of games to be had.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

                      • That schedule already has more travel than we have this year in the entire non-conference. The rest needs to be filled with a bunch of home games, the problem is getting quality teams to fill that list as well.

                        • I'm assuming the Iowa St game won't be on ESPN3? Probaby going to have to find it on one of those wonderful streaming sites.

                          • $7 to stream through unipanthers.com.

Not ideal but more reliable than an off shore site...

                            • Anyone happen to know why UNI does not stream home games via Panther Inside Access? I don't get CBS SportsNet, which is the channel the Xavier game will be on, and was hoping UNI would be streaming it, but it appears they only stream audio for most games. Not sure if it has anything to do with the TV rights, but seems like it could be another small way to get some more money into the athletic department.

It's all about the TV rights.
