To be clear; today was a completely inexcusable, unprecedented disaster.

But if we were still using RPI we would be complaining about falling from a 6 seed to a 9 seed.

Yay P5 teams!!! (and MVC teams for continuing to suck it up in the non-con)

DGK... this team did not earn a trip to the NCAA tournament. Let’s stop talking about rip, sos, net and all that other stuff that does not mean a thing after the ass kicking we took today.

You aren't wrong. Except 5 years ago we literally would have earned and NCAA bid with our season.

        Ugh...

Time to cheer hard for Colorado and South Carolina. And Northern Colorado for that matter.

Who needs to lose for us to have a chance? Utah State for sure. Anyone else?

5 losses to sub 100 Kenpom teams would not have made the tournament. You are delusional. 5 bad losses was always bad news, regardless of what formula you use.

You're insane if you think that even under RPI we would have got an at large after losing to Drake on Friday. No chance.

Illinois has 9 top 35 wins and a 51 RPI

Northern Iowa has 1 top 35 wins and a top 20 RPI

Just a random example and why no one uses RPI anymore.

You are using rankings from 1 system to justify why that system has the better rankings. But you knew that cause you are just a troll

We literally still have a chance now. Not a very good one but still a long shot.

If we were using a system that treats us much more favorably. Then Yes I think we'd be in.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no less p%#% than anyone here. And am pretty much done with sports until baseball starts.

I mean I hate Illinois but you’d have to be eating paint chips to argue UNI deserves to go to the tournament more than Illinois.

UNI had to lose in their conference championship game or win it. That’s not asking a lot in a bad conference. They failed.

I want to cry. Today was the absolute worst possible scenario.
I hate all the talk about NET, RPI, SOS, etc, etc. It all adds up to the fact that P5's don't and won't play mid-majors and they're actually incentivized not to. Of course UNI has less Q1 wins, Q1 teams won't play them. Of course UNI has more Q3 losses...everyone on their schedule is a Q3. They literally have to go undefeated to NOT have Q3 losses. While P5's get a boost by losing games week after week to conference foes, mid-majors must go undefeated for 3-4 weeks to make up that ground, only to lose ALL of it with a single loss. Meanwhile a P5 has one standout game against the right team (at home) and it pretty much makes their entire season. It's oppressing and depressing.
It's tough to dominate a conference. Everyone knows everyone intimately. There's a reason rivalries are often close games. Familiarity. To expect a mid-major to go undefeated in conference play in order play to prove they're next level is unrealistic and nearly impossible. Even if the entire conference is Q3 and Q4! Of course, everyone knows this and has actually designed it this way for ratings and ticket sales from larger fan bases.
It sucks being a fan of the little guy

Dropped 11 spots in NET 30 games into the season after 1 game. Just awesome...

Oh and Loyola stayed the same and Valpo actually dropped a spot.

                        Gotta love this current system.

If we lost in OT like Loyola did, we probably drop a few spots, but not 11. We got throttled and the one time we couldn't afford to get killed

Not saying its a good loss. Or excusable in any way.

UNI was ranked 36 and lost by 21 points to a team ranked 167. Dropping 11 spots doesn't surprise me.
Loyola was ranked 98 and lost by only 1 point to a team ranked 138.

The actual rating numbers used to calculate rankings are generally bunched closer together in the middle of the bell curve, so ratings-wise, there isn't as big of difference between 98 and 138, thus not as big of an upset and not as much movement. (as for Valpo moving down, I'm guessing that is due to the dead weight of playing an extra game against Evansville and only winning by 3)..
