Boise? That's one I don't recall, when/why/what is the deal with scheduling them?

We had a Home/Home scheduled with them to start this year but it got canceled. I'd imagine we just pushed everything back a year. Were supposed to play out there on opening night.

        A little scheduling news...

Sources: Stanford, BYU, Northern Iowa, Wyoming, New Mexico State, South Florida, Liberty, and Hawaii will headline the 2021 Diamond Head Classic.

We're playing at Diamond Head over Christmas for our MTE. Decent field but just an awful spot on the calendar. First league game will be 2 or 3 days after we get back. Gross.

Gross. But gives AJ time to get fully healthy at least before big non conference games

I thought we would never go back after our last experience in Hawaii.

I'm guessing ESPN promised us something for the future...

I'm just glad we're still in a position where we're getting decent tourneys. We're not reduced to playing two SWACs, a MEAC, a MAAC, a MAC, and Vanderbilt, and Tulane.

What was so bad about that last time?

It’s the travel combined with when that travel happens, as others have mentioned. And to be fair, it wasn’t completely this tournament’s fault. That year we were the non conference road warriors. For the month before Christmas our scheduled included:
                      at North Dakota
                      at Richmond
                      at George Mason
                      at New Mexico
in Des Moines vs Iowa State
at Hawaii for the Diamond Head Classic

What is this tournament’s fault is that someone has to play Hawaii on their home floor. We were the lucky ones that year. Hopefully ESPN promised us we will be on the opposite side of the bracket as them this time in addition to some future goods.

I would also argue all that travel led to our 2-6 start in conference play. I think Jake maybe even said that as well.

That first round game against Hawaii also tips at 1:00 AM Iowa time. Just an awful setup.

Oh well. It's done. Hopefully we're in the afternoon session this time.

Let's be honest the officials have always favored Hawaii because they want the opportunity to come back. Plus the Stan Sheriff Center is one of the worst facilities in division 1.

Ah yes...I do remember that now. As you write though, it wasn't so much the actual tournament itself; just all of that traveling overall.

It wouldn't be an awful idea to try to set up the game at Boise right before we head out to Hawaii (December 18-19?). It might help with travel since it's our only game out west, at least so far. Other than that, yes, we need to do everything possible to stay at home the 7-10 days before heading out to Hawaii.
