  • Does anybody know when the MVC media day is? I'd imagine it's this week or next.

Err, nevermind, looks like it's next Wednesday.
To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

    • The St Bonaventure game has been assigned to ESPN+.

Peacock would have been way more fun...

      • Heads up to those that may need to juggle work schedules.

The Vermont game is a 5:00 tip on Thursday, November 11th to accommodate their flight to play Maryland the on the morning of the 13th.

Other than that, we've got Tip Times and TV for everything except the games at Marshall and SIU. See the first post.

          • So we're giving them a big check to come here and they're flying commercial?

Yup. The old Indiana State method. Red eye from CR to Chicago to DC from what I understand...

Free beer for anybody that can get there for 5:00 Thursday tip...

I'd make it a big deal for students--Come to the game before you go out!!!

But alas, that would require marketing...

I've given up on good attendance for the year but we have to do something for the ESPN games. That building needs to look good on National TV for recruiting.

                  • I realize you're being somewhat tongue-in-cheek with free beer. It is illegal for any establishment that holds an Iowa beer or liquor license to give away any free alcoholic beverage. Maybe $1.00 beer night would work but then you're giving up a revenue steam with no guarantee that it will put more butts in the seats..

Well, during COVID, I recall MLB and NFL teams packing the stands with cutouts of people (in some cases, real fans - SF Giants did that; in other cases ... well, the Denver Broncos had South Park characters).

I wonder if the AD can swing a deal on clearance cutouts?
                      "Well, that escalated quickly."

                          • That is a very good chunk of ESPN 2/U games. I can't recall, do they do flexing? Like if Loyola/Drake and us both find ourselves ranked for any of the meetings, would they move that to ESPN assuming there's no other great games?

                            Comment

                            • It's can happen from the 2/u selections but it's rare that mvc game is on the ESPN main channel. I remember our game at Wichita was flexed from espn 2 on the main network back in 2015 for gameday. But it has not happened often.

They can. It's not very likely due to other leagues having a certain number of games that have to appear on ESPN per their contracts but it is theoretically possible. The only one that I could realistically see that happening with would be the Super Bowl Sunday game with Loyola because it's going to get buried in ratings no matter what network it's on.

I think it's real ****ty that ESPN flipped that top Valley game from primetime the night before to a game that's going to bump right up against the Super Bowl kickoff. I'm just glad it's not a home game, the crowd would have been brutal especially if you end up with the Chiefs or Packers playing.

My only other 'complaint' is that we don't have any Saturday night home games. Our building is just so much better after dark and Saturday nights usually have a livelier crowd. TV took away most of the flexibility but the Illinois State game should have been an evening tip because we can control that one.
