And I am ready to be hurt again....

Kidding sort of, I don't have tons and tons of expectations this year so why not just see where the season goes.

Is 35-0 by the end of the season unreasonable expectations?

We don't play at Evansville, so yes, perfectly reasonable.

        • did anyone go to the open practice for season ticket holders today? I wanted to go but it didn't fit the calendar. I'm excited about this group on paper... i think our additions far exceed our losses in the portal.

          • We went. I thought Tytan Cael, and Pock shined the most. I really like RJ. But I wouldn’t be surprised by Cael taking a lot of PG minutes.

            • Bond is a super smooth athlete and Rubin can do a lot of things. I was really encouraged.

Will Hornseth is going to be special as he gets older.

              • The UNI basketball golf outing is becoming a joke...I have seen better golf outings at high school level....the outing is at the worse course in the Cedar valley...the lunch is a burger served in wax paper with chips...and the dinner is pizza...the prizes have went downhill...this is a D1 basketball program what in the world are they doing...something needs to change...so.many people complaining but the same ol status quo stays the same

                • It was the first time I have seen Hornseth. He is a big kid, he does not look like a Freshman. It will be interesting to see what he can turn into. I was also happy to see Pock playing well, since I had heard he didn’t have much of a summer due to injuries. Trey looks like he is ready to knock down shots at a higher rate.
Most importantly Tytan looks ready to have a special season. He is such a unique talent, and has improved every year. Not to mention he has stayed loyal to UNI for his entire career.

                  • I'm the charter member of the Leon Bond fan club.

Not many athletes like that in The Valley that aren't just raw. He's got game to go with the athleticism.

                      Good points.

Tytan is very, very hard to stop. Bond is legit. A full year of Pock shooting will help.

The other person that made an impression on me was Cade Courbat. Quite a walk-on. I don't know what height they will list him as, but he has a college body, wide shoulders, is quick and fast, and can really jump. I could see him playing at the 3/4. Wes Rubin & Ben Schwieger did not stand out as much as I was hoping for, but this was just one practice.

Redek Born looks to be an easy red-shirt. On the other hand, Will Hornseth showed moves like Jacob Hutson. (He did not take any outside shots; otherwise he is behind Hutty only in experience.) He will be good. Wes & Ben can back-up this year, but we need to keep him.

Guard play, as expected, is a concern. Losing Bowen Born and Nate Heise is losing a lot of savvy and SHOOTING. (And Nate's defense.) We will have the slashers in Tytan and Leon, but will the lane be open? We have done a lot of driving & kicking, live by the 3/die by the 3 in the last few years. How many threats from outside will we have now? R.J. Taylor made a couple and missed a couple. Same for Trey Campbell.

Chase Courbat was injured and did not practice.

One person's observations. Mostly offense. Did not note anything from Max Weisbrod.

This is noteworthy as we need him to be good to balance the backcourt.

                        • I'm not worried about Weisbrod. He's only been cleared for 5 on 5 for 10 days or so.

His game translates really well. I expect he'll play a bunch and have a big impact.

                          • Weisbrod is an absolute gamer. His game goes up as the stakes go up. I am really excited to see him play this year. I appreciate everyone's input on here about the open practice. It's good to hear some first hand feedback on how the guys are looking.
