We shot 27 from deep out of 49 total from the field. Too many, we need more inside from the post. We were fortunate to win. Illinois State is now a tough out for anyone. They're going to win coming in. Maybe, they play their way to the 7 line. I had them 10th preseason.

Likely had something to do with Tytan playing limited minutes. Of our two remaining “bigs”, Betz shoots more threes than twos (6 of his 7 shots this game). We’ve had games where we’ve dominated paint scoring, hopefully we can hit on more of the rolls and backcuts in future games. I’m also impressed with Bowen’s ability to take it into the trees and finish more often than not.

And the students showed up and were active. Tuttle again thanked the crowd after the game on Twitter. It was pretty quiet in there for most of the game - there wasn't much to cheer about. But once again, when the team turned it on later, the crowd fed off of it and vice versa. I've never seen Jake and his assistants influence the crowd as much as they have been this year. It's really fun to see, and I think it makes the fans feel like they have a closer connection to the team.
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Haha. Sorry. He actually did much better as the night went on. Calling Kasubke "Kasoobski" was killing me, though.

This was a tough win. I know the record doesn't say it, but Illinois St. is not a gimme by any means. They just beat Missouri St before they came to Cedar Falls last night. The same Missouri St. who throttled us and has now swept Drake. We already won the first game against them, and it's never easy to sweep. Please don't take wins for granted. Especially with Tytan being so limited, and teams effectively taking Bowen out of the equation. Trey Campbell was beyond huge last night and Wolf and Duax each had very impactful stretches.

Who knows what's going to happen with transfer portal and things like that, but if we keep our roster intact, the depth of this team next year is going to be absolutely insane. We could legitimately have two quality starting fives to rotate through.

I love the fight and tenacity of this team.

We didn't play great and won anyway. A sign of a team that is learning very quickly "how" to win. We've had more talented teams, certainly. But these guys sticktuitiveness and ability to finish has, thus far, been about as good as any UNI team in awhile.

Hey orange, you were right. Ege did have a double-double tonight: two free throws attempted and two free throws made!

Campbell carried the team last night.
                  Team was 12-27 from 3 (44.4%).
Campbell was 6-7 from 3. Rest of team was 6-20 from 3 (30%).

But yeah, that was a close win in which ISU had the lead for much of the 2nd half. I feel like that 2-point home win should make us feel worse than a 2-point loss at Belmont. (I know it was 4, but that was FTs at the end).

Campbell 6-7 from the arc. Wonder what happened on the one he missed!
Just think, if he goes 5-7, we might have lost!?! And 5-7 from three is monumentally great.

He also goes 1-4 from two.

15 turnovers is bad. That has to get better to have a chance against the best teams. Period.
How many of them came on out of bounds plays?
Baseline OOBs - some teams look to score. Some teams look to just get it in. We make a circus out of it. Reverted to a few years ago last night.
But a win is a win. Would have been nice to cruise the last 6 minutes and play some bench. Won't be many more chances.

I agree but would add that we need a big.

Is Ege have any shooting ability? Teams will learn to keep him open if he never shoots.

I really think Ege can shoot a bit, but he is so pass first with the way he runs the point, that he just does not look for his shot at all. Truthfully, if we are ever in a situation where we need to hit free throws at the end, the lineup needs to be Born, Campbell, Wolf, Ege, Tytan. This is one of the worst free throw shooting teams I can remember. We miss Heise for a lot of reasons, but this is a big one that probably gets forgotten. Born is at 83%, Trey 76%, and the rest are under 70. Duax is stuck at 50%. If he shoots a 1 and 1, you can pretty much guarantee it's 1 and done. He needs the first shot to gauge, and then he makes the second. That seems like it would be a relatively easy thing to correct, but he just hasn't gotten it figured out.

Sorry, this isn't really relevant to this thread, but shooting just got me thinking about how many points we leave on the line.

Shooting is the next step in Duax's game. Time to live in the gym over the summer and just get shots up.

I'm also guessing the banked in 3 on Wednesday night wasn't on purpose, lol.

Right - I forgot about that. And remember it was a two-point win.

Eric Coleman was the same way on FTs...almost always made the 2nd. The first was a guess and wish and house money if he made it
