  • We shot a solid 36% from 3 in the 1st half. UNT shoots 82% when the core of their team was gone from a year ago. Only down a couple at half. Was this an anomaly? Maybe. But we have to get more physical/athletic on the perimeter. Plug the middle for cutters/backdoor. And be better rotating.

I get that overreaction is your thing but holy crap man, take a breath.

We played really well last night and we had two good looks at the buzzer that just didn't fall on the road. The sky isn't falling.

      • I think it's fair to say that UNT will likely be an equivalent team to Drake/Bradley/ISUb, so going on the road for the first game of the year and taking it to overtime is not a failure. Just frustrating that we had a great chance on a night where our best player had a very off game.

Oh no! Not the moves of one of the best players to ever wear the uniform that won the Larry Bird award!!!!!

Don't watch any games this year if you're already giving up that early into game 1.

            • And look how we stayed in that game. For so long our only way to stay in games like this was to have our outside shots falling. We were slashing the lane, crashing boards, and getting put backs. Our outside shots will fall. What's great to see is that we can score consistently in the paint. This will not be a bad loss later in the season and let's hope this lights a bit of a fire in the team heading into B4A.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

              • If you approach the non conference season as having basically zero chance at an at-large bid, which is factual, these games are much more palatable. Our season is about league play, and playing our best in March.

We played pretty well, Heise looked awesome, Hutson is exactly what we were missing in the middle, and we have a very good and deep roster. Many many positives from game 1, especially considering the opponent.

                • Considering how many things didn't click for us last night that you would normally expect from this team... I'm excited to see how this season progresses. It's not often you'd see us (compared to recent seasons) put up 77 on a team that only allowed over 70 points from an opponent ONCE last season and that was a 2 OT game. Additionally, having Born, Campbell, Duax, Anderson, and a few others not contribute to their fullest extent, there's much to walk away with and know this is going to be a great season.

A few other key takeaways... We had 14 O rebounds in our first game of the season against an athletic team. We outrebounded them, only by one, but still. Turnovers, while still a few too many, were not outlandish. Can't wait for more from this season. Go Panthers!

                  • we didn't look terrible

NT is a good team which we matched up with very closely

                    The refs weren't terrible.

This was the first game of the year. Not everything was perfect.

Now we know what things we need to correct and improve on.

would you rather win the first game of the year and lose the last game?

Or, would you rather lose the first game and win the last game of the year?

                      Shout this from the rooftops.

We schedule the way we do to get ready for the back half of the year. Nobody outside the Power leagues gets At Larges anymore and we schedule in a way that guarantees that we get a minimum 12 seed if we win in StL.

Enjoy the ride, y'all. This team is going to be really, really good.

                      • If a single overtime road loss at a quality mid-major is what keeps us out of an at-large bid, so be it. That says more about the broken process than it does about UNI as a team.

Ah, no. We do that again we'll be 1-5. I don't think we'll be 1-5, though.

Feel free to not watch then so you aren't tortured watching a dog **** roster.

I'm not saying that the season's over but I think it's fair to say that that's a pretty disappointing result given all the hype around the team that's been building for months. Specifically on the defensive end, as it sure seems like, once again, teams are going to shoot the three ball abnormally well against us.

That is a concern. It's been happening for several years now.
