I have a couple observations. Born has to be hurt. Every shot was short or off. He just doesn't miss like that consistently. Wolf shot it worse than I've ever seen him shoot. I agree with a couple others that Hutson doesn't look super comfortable at the top of the key running this offense. Hopefully that gets better as the year goes on. He does a nice job with his back to the basket, but we really miss Phyfe up top. Henry runs this offense from the top of the key and is able to take advantage of aggressive defenses with good backdoor cut passes. Tytan is about the only guy that can drive to the basket and draw a foul consistently right now. Fortunately his free throw shooting seems to have improved. I think Heise is capable, too, but that's not really how the offense operates with him.

The broadcast wasn't bad by any means, but USF's defense really wasn't nearly as good as they made it sound. We missed so many open looks at 3. I would be willing to wager a significant amount that we won't shoot that poorly from outside the rest of the year. The issue is that this happens every year at the beginning of the year. We are a habitually slow starting team. I know there's a process, but can we please change up how we get ready for some of these OOC games.

That North Texas team was significantly better than this USF team in my opinion. If we had played like we did against them, I think we would've won relatively easily. Just didn't have it yesterday. I really hope Born starts to get right by Wednesday. I can barely stand listening to media talk him up without background info and then acting shocked when he puts up no numbers. I can already hear the nonsense and I'm getting pre-annoyed.

Bowen's early inefficiency reminds me of AJ's sophomore (?) year where he wasn't playing well and eventually had hip surgery and sat out the season. I hope that's not the case again but it's not a promising beginning.

I had that same terrifying thought as well.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Must have movement, with the ball seeking to beat the close-guarding man and without the ball seeking to get open.
We will not be able to depend on Bowen for this. Prepare for a tough tournament. Have to get open and let them fly. We have a lot of gray shooters.

Probably start Campbell and Taylor would get more time if Born can't go. We would be in for a long season if that were the case. We have not been getting to 50-50 balls. We did hold turnovers to 10 in Tampa. Ten would be great for the rest of the season. Better shooting all around and we would have won last night. Just try to learn something in the Bahamas and get home soon. League title can be done, but we have zero margin for error.

I also noticed how poor our luck has been at getting to loose balls, and tips and whatnot. After awhile that's not luck and it's not a coincidence. Gameplay speed has to get better. Play fast and controlled. Sometimes it feels like we are going through the motions. We need a Toledo like game from last year where stuff started to click. Hopefully that comes against UNC.

I think we all want to believe but football and basketball have been bad for a while if we’re being honest.

We've won 2 of the last 4 regular season conference championships. We also won a game in the NIT just a couple years ago. To say they've been bad for awhile is just objectively false.

A college basketball team‘s success is measured by one thing: the NCAA tournament. And we haven’t been there since 2016, when we exited in just about the most humiliating way possible. Winning your regular season championship doesn’t mean squat if you don‘t make the tournament.

You know, I think we can be somewhere between we need to make the ncaa tournament every year to be successful, and one NIT win in the last 7 years constitutes success, but that may just be me.

I'd settle for not having 8 minute long scoring droughts.

Nah. The game has changed. Give me winning the league every single time. I want 4 good months not 3 fun days.

Man, I look at that Heels' lineup and they're tough. I think they're Final Four good. Bacot is an animal.

                              A N D . . .

USF shot 10% (2/20) from 3 in their loss to Maine.
