There was a Belmont player next to the lane who had rolled an ankle that led to the turnover and easy UNI basket. That was the reason play was stopped. It was under 4 minutes in the half which is a designated media break at a dead ball. The question of whether it was Jake calling it came from Amy pointing at the player on the ground by the lane in front of the UNI bench. Not at all a woof. There were other of questionable calls, but not this one

    OK
That would explain it, but it was strange how she was looking at the scorers' bench and called it so quickly.

I like how the announcers at the beginning were talking about how amazing it was that Jake could keep the team together during this portal era. It’s no wonder, though, after watching them play. They suck! Where else are these kids gonna play?

Wake me up when our team isn’t the usual cast of mediocre 5’9” white guys from Oelwein.

I have felt this way a lot and not just this season. I seem to yell quite regularly "put your hands up!"

This is the first time Sirmons has done a game at our place and I don't really remember him doing any Valley games over the years. Definitely gave off the 'I'm only here for the check' vibe. He can stay in the Big 12 if he's too good to give a good effort in our league.

He was also the guy with the no call on Wes's breakaway layup that would've tied the Louisville game in the tournament where Wes got put into the 4th row.

Anyway, onward and upward to Evansville tomorrow. Get a W and let's get rolling.

I thought Chance was ok. Amy, not at her best. I interpret the deal with the 2nd half timeout, I think she thought Jake called a timeout. When he objected and she noted it was just under four, she changed it to a media timeout. not a big deal. At least she didn't stick it to Jake.
Doug Sirmons was not good. Supposed to be one of the best. I guess everyone can have an off day.

Does anyone know the protocol? Is one of three game officials designated as "Lead official"?
Amy & Chance seemed to look to Doug for guidance on many occasions.
Sirmons was the designated lead. You can generally tell by which one confers with the scorer's table before the game and checks the review monitor set up. Bonner did the initial jump, which is typically the lead but can be designated to anyone.

Amy Bonner-Worked the FIBA World Championships and is the first woman to ever get an NCAA Tournament assignment. Works all over the Big 12/Valley/Mountain West.

She is the one who called a time out after a made basket in the 2nd half. Said it was a media time out!!!
The clock was running. An official can't call a time out (unless perhaps someone is injured).
    Woof.

Doug Sirmons-8 Final Fours and the Big 12 title game pretty much every year. Nothing but big games.

Chance Moore-Identified as one of the best up and coming officials. Was a second weekend alternate last year at 32. That's John Higgins stuff.

And that's the results we got. Brutal.

I cant get over how bad this game was. That was a disgusting effort from a team that is supposed to be good.

    1-5 against D1 teams.

    brutal.

And Belmont was playing with a lot of sophomores!

One of the benefits of a summer trip is that you can come out of the gate ready early in the season. By January, it doesn't mean much. No bump with this group. After Atlantis, I had hope for us - if we did not play down to the level of the competition in the conference. Now all I am hoping for is that our increased depth compared to last year helps us win more games in February.

    5-8 in non-con?
Richmond, Toledo, and NIU all look like losses unless we change.
