The staff has done a nice job recruiting more length over the last 10 years, but more foot speed is needed too. Those guys are out there. The better teams in our league seem better at or more willing to find them.
What's frustrating is you see those tools in Duax but it just doesn't come together for whatever reason.

The Bowlsby interview is encouraging. The only thing I'd add to this conversation is that the grass is not always greener as it may seem. You take a huge gamble by ousting some of the best coaches in the MVC for young blood that could go one way or the other. As things sit right now, say we got rid of Jake and searched for a new coach, sure, it could go well. But with the state of things at the moment, if that went poorly, you'd be worsening a problem to an absolutely detrimental point.

I think the best approach with where things sit right now, is to find the right AD, fundraise like crazy, and get our school competitive again. As Bowlsby said, it's easy to get complacent and that's what has happened. David did UNI no favors by putting the ship in cruise control. Some of the best success at UNI has come from having an AD who is willing to push forward, we desperately need that.

We need the next Bowlsby/Hartzell. Bob has the connections to find that person.

David found it much, much easier to cut than it was to expand and, in hindsight, we should have been screaming bloody murder the moment he started running off all the senior staff the minute he got here.

Do we want a younger up and coming AD who UNI will be a stepping stone for, or would we prefer a more established person that has been at a lower level that this might be their final stop?

I don't think it's possible to be a 'destination' job at our level.

My preference is an Associate AD from the Big Ten or Big 12 that comes highly recommended and will give us 6 or 7 good years.

And someone tied to fund raising with demonstrated ability to identify and recruit new donors into a program.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Just can't hire the student services guy. Need somebody that's actually been public facing.
