  • I had a passing thought as I see all the news coming out further tipping the scales in favor of the big programs in NCAA and wondered if there would be any shot of Iowa and Iowa State playing UNI and Drake again in the future/near future as the gap in resources widens.

It could be a neutral site big 4 thing again. I really don't care. I just want them to play each other again. I'm watching Nate Oats take Alabama up to North Dakota, and I applaud him for doing so.

I'm not holding my breath. Especially since the B1G and B12 will have so many conference games with their expanded conferences but I sure would enjoy it.

    • Fine idea.

To make it happen, I'm afraid that two things would have to occur:
      1. Fran retires.
      2. Hell freezes over.

Roy Williams did something big with us (and others). Is Oates' reasoning the same?
I would think that Des Moines would be on board. I don't see those two feeling a need to do anything with us, but who knows how fast things will change.

Yes. Grant Nelson is from North Dakota and Oates is getting him a game at home.

Agreed that the Iowa and Iowa State games are never coming back. We've been able to schedule just fine without them. I'm over it personally.

Stop thinking we need to play them for some sort of validation.

I figured it was mainly since Nelson was from there, similar to the whole Marcus Paige game for us. I want to be clear that my wanting the games back has nothing to do with validation, though. I just think it'd be nice for in state teams to play each other in the non-conference. It's a boring time of the year for UNI athletics so just got me thinking.

I think we all agree that it'd be nice for regional schools to face off each season, or even just every few seasons. Unfortunately, college athletics does not care about fans opinions, only dollars. Until it makes more financial sense for the P4 schools to play midmajors, they won't.

I would love to see it. Maybe the new AD's for UNI and EIU, as well as a new coach at Drake, could make it happen. For Iowa State, I think Pollard would consider anything that makes money.

It sounds like Wes' dad is really invested in the UNI basketball program and proud of both his sons' accomplishments in basketball. His support could be influential in Wes' decision-making process regarding his future in the sport.

                  • I saw on twitter that Iowa State is replacing their near 20 year old video boards at Hilton. Maybe we could buy it for cheap? It would be better than what we have currently.

I feel like their video really showed its age as it's being brought down. I think we need new lights before any of that to be honest. They need to do something to address the fact they are also having wrestling in there. It would really add some fun to the environment if we could do some pregame light show stuff as well as also dimming them and spotlighting the mat for wrestling.

                      • A couple cool things for former player yesterday. AJ got the first pitch honors at the Brewers game last night and Ali got himself a promotion to Associate Head Coach at CSU. Have to imagine it's only a matter of time until Ali is a Head Coach somewhere.

                        • Tuttle went on Cole Bair's show today and he also did an interview with The Gazette. He talked about how the size of Bond and Schweiger on the wings really increases the versatility of what they can do. He also gave some huge praise to Will Hornseth. Said the way he moves is similar to Adam Koch where he can defend positions 2-5. Hornseth was the defensive player of the year in Wisconsin, so it looks like that part of his game has really translated.

After seven departures from last season’s roster via the transfer portal, Ben Jacobson and his assistants worked tirelessly this spring to sign four transfers and a walk-on to add to their duo of 2024 high school signees. That amount of roster turnover has led to summer workouts looking much different from a year ago.

                              • Thinking over the roster and we have so much length and options. Just seems like we might be missing that go to guy. Born had a bad season last year, but it's fair to assume that it was just that, a season and not him as a player.

Ty Anderson might be the heart and soul of this team, but we know we get out of the guy. I think the season is heavily going to depend on how much Trey can shoulder on the offensive end. He's such a great all-around guy, but I think we have enough around him that he needs to shift his focus to the offensive end and playmaking. I know we have RJ, too, and I have faith in him being a good starter, but end of game I want Trey with the ball.
