  • UNI wins men's MVC track meet by 1 point

UNI won the men's MVC track title by one point today over Illinois State. The meet was at Indiana State. Weather was just awful, upper 80s and very very humid.

It came down to the last event, the 4 x 400, UNI had a 3 point lead, needed to win or finish 2nd to win the team title. Illinois State caught them at the end to win the race, but noone could catch UNI for 2nd, so they won by a single point.

and to illustrate how important every point is in track, UNI had a guy who was injured or something, but he wasn't able to really compete in the 110 hurdles, so he walked the race, pushing over every hurdle, got 8th, got one point for 8th, and there is your difference maker.

The second UNI hurdler was DQ’d and did not receive points as far as I heard. Nice win for UNI as a team!

I didn't realize he'd been dq'd? He came across the line.

Also, the 3rd runner in the 100 for UNI also walked across the line in 28+ seconds, so he maybe was injured too and jogged the 100 to get that one point.

Cole Phillips was DQ'd in the 110 highs for knocking down each hurdle deliberately.

Matt Turcotte was on crutches and must've walked or jogged the 100 and 200 finals. He scored 2 pts for those 2 8th place finishes.

              The old Bucky strategy

Do very well in sprints, score points on throws and pole vault and forget that distance running is even a thing.

We're going to miss Isaiah Trousill and Tayshaun Cooper on the football field.

                Gawd ... Bucky.

Had a racquetball class he taught years and years ago, back when two PE credits were a required part of the GE plan. He was non-stop talking all semester long. As part of the final, he would play cut-throat against two students at a time in one of the indoor courts in the West Gym, again talking non-stop the entire time (while killing all of us on the court, in part because he was so much better and because we were usually trying to catch our breath from laughing at what he was jabbering on an on about).
                "Well, that escalated quickly."
