  • If true, this is good news indeed, but I will feel much better when it is officially confirmed. What would be the rationale for this? Time and time again, D1 transfers have been required to sit out a year. Washpun, Jesperson; ISU has repeatedly brought in transfers who have needed to sit one out. Is there a special reason for this that has not been available to countless others? Anyone know?

    • What I have seen in the past usually involves a serious family illness, with student moving closer to home. Hopefully a different reason.

      • The NCAA said they weren't giving out any more hardship waivers a few years back but something has cleared changed this summer. The NCAA approved a whole bunch in August this year. Blake Harris (Mizzou - NC State), Anthony Mack (Wyoming - Miami) and Haanif Cheatham (Marquette - FGCU) along with 2 others leaving Marquette were some of the higher profile ones. Something clearly changed and the NCAA is much more likely to give out hardships than previous years.

        • It's official, per Nick Petaros at the Courier...

All set for MVC media day. UNI has confirmed in its release Pepperdine transfer Trae Berhow received a waiver from the NCAA and will be eligible to play this season.

Berhow will be a huge addition this year. He will help with scoring at minimum, probably with rebounding as well. We may end up having two of the best rebounding guards in the country with him and Ty.

            • Do we have any idea why yet? Not complaining but seems a little odd

              • NCAA is making life easier on its athletes. Things that are in the process of being changed are if your coach leaves or gets fired you can transfer without sitting out. So since they have already announced this as being implemented at a later date, schools started applying for waivers to get kids who fall under that criteria eligible immediately. The NCAA is allowing it.

This is also good news for Biggie. They have already announced in Football that a kid can play in 4 games (basically 1/3 of the season) and they don't lose a year of eligibility. Biggie played in 4 games at Little Rock (about 1/7 of the season) so that, along with other circumstances, will be taken into account for his eligibility when the NCAA looks at his case.

Credit to the NCAA. They spent so long trying to find ways to make kids ineligible... Now they are siding more with allowing the kids to play. You'll see more and more kids getting years back and being eligible across the country. It's great for college sports.

That's great. Really hope it works out for Biggie to get that additional year.

Let kids go to NBA or G-League if they want to...but make it easier for kids to stay in the college game who want to.

Good to see us reaping some benefit from that change.
Winning is more fun than losing.

                        • Tyrese Haliburton is the best player on Iowa State as a true freshman. Big miss for us.

Would be great if our staff could close the deal on one of these guys for once.

The tempo Jake wanted to play could be part of that. A lot of bigger name recruits want to play a more up tempo style.

Sounds like Iowa State was in on Halliburton early through TJ Otz.

UNI was his best offer until ISU missed out on another recruit who went elsewhere. Prohm recently admitted as much when he said "we didn't recruit him long" after Halliburton had a really good game.
